4speed toploader if you're gonna cut it. Hit me up for shifter bracket.

This is my thoughts exactly.. well almost. Even if it is uncut, a toploader is pretty high on the fun factor!...

It's been said many times and I agree, unless the floor shifter is the only mod, I don't think it hurts the value at all!

fordfan, thats so cool. YEah, my feeling was cutting the floor - if you cut it put a TL in if it's in budget. Most fun a 4 speed if it looks like the bronco on the tire cover.

Floor shifter

i like this setup and location. It uses your stock 3 speed transmission and top loader shifter and forks from 76-79 jeep. works good and costs from 100 to 150 for used shifter

My preference is on the column. Just rebuilt a column in a '67 and it is amazing how much nicer it is now, I have never drove a 3 on the tree off the showroom floor so I have no comparison as to that BUT in my opinion, this is the smoothest shifting I have seen or had out of a 3 speed. I am not a fan of the 3 on the floor conversion due to how intrusive they are. That being said, I have 2 original Hurst shifters and tunnel covers I was going to take to SC to sell but if you want them, let me know. One is missing the knob but both in general are in decent shape. One came out of a bronco we are switching to a NV3550 and the other came out of a '67 that we rebuilt the column on to go back to original.

I must know more will this work with a top loader 4 speed? I have heard of people making a top mount shifter but it is not very command.

I like a three on the tree. I never understood why people do high dollar builds and put a floor shifter on a three speed. If building a nice rig either stick with column shifter or switch to 5 speed or auto.

Anyway, I would stick with the column unless it is just worn out.

I think a 3-on-the-floor could be tough to sell to a taller guy. I'm 6'3" and I can't drive one comfortably.

on that note, I bought one from another member on here and I was surprised at the size of the box when it arrived, thought it would be taller
