Got few friends together this Saturday and went on one last wheeling trip before the snow hits. We had 3 Broncos and Toyota. It was a beautiful day! It was nice and sunny and in the mid 70's all day. This is the trail up to Coyote Lake above the town of Shaver Lake. We left Fresno at 8:00 sharp and got back into town about 9:00 pm. It was a great day with great friends.

On the way out, we came across a couple of J@@p guys that were standing outside thier rigs with the "deer in the headlights" look on there faces. So being the good wheelers that we are, we stopped to find out what was going on. One of the the J@@p's had ripped his trac bar right off the axle. The factory weld looked like a first time welder high school student had welded it, not to mention that the stock trac bars on those things are very wimpy looking. Certainly not built to go off roading with! I guess that's what they mean by "Trail Rated". Your supposed to drive them on the trail, and nothing more! Anyway, one of the guys in our group has a power inverter and bunch of power tools on board, so we fired it up and drilled a hole straight through the wimpy little trac bar and mount. Then we stuck a bolt through it and told him to drive very carefully on the way home. We followed them out and never saw them again, so I assume that they made home.

Sounds like you guys had a good trip, I was pretty bummed my steering box didn't make it in time. I passed you on your way up at the bottom of the four lanes on my way down the hill to work. As it turned out my third member has yet to arrive as well.
How was the Coyote trail it has been some years since I have been that way?

You should have flagged me down. We could have talked for little bit. Too bad WTO let you down. :-[ The trail is awesome! I really like that trail. I think that I'd like to run Swamp Lake next.

Lookin good!! I still have no clue how you keep your rig so clean.

My wife "used to own a J@@p". She tried to keep up with us one time on the trail and busted the stock tie rod in half on the diff. The thickness was ridiculously thin walled:eek:
I had a piece of water pipe I sleeved over it and dilled a few holes for small bolts, then wrapped it with a roll of duct tape and crap load of zip ties. She drove it like that for a good month. It was definately a Barbie J@@p. :p

This might be a stupid question, but do you guys all drive your rigs up or trailer them?

I cut the stock rocker panels off. Then welded a piece of 1x3 rectangle tubing up inside the underneith side of the stock door sill to reinforce the sill area. Then I built some rock sliders out of 2x5x.25 wall rectangle tubing and tied them into the frame.

Nice! Do you have a source for that tubing?
