Winch size for EBs

What size winch are you running?

I'm looking at the Warn 9.5 TI.

Warn site states that gross vehicle weight X 1.5 = minimum winch size.

Modified EBs are at about 4200-4500lbs+. That would put us in the 8000lbs class type winch.

New math? 5000# x 1.5 = 7500lb.
Sounds like a 9.5k winch would be fine.
8k will be worked harder than a 12k so it wouldn;t last as long.
Guess it depends on how often you use it and how long you want it to last.

How about the newer Warn 9.5Si M.O.S.F.E.T. Diagnostic Control, with roller fairlead?

It's about $250. more.

You're right.. It's X 1.5. In my head I'm thinking 2.5....Doh

Damn, I need to recalculate how much money I got to spend, I may come up short on funds...

Or I may be able to buy more stuff...

I have a Warn XD9000i and it's big enough for everthing I've needed it for. I wouldn't bother with a roller fairlead - get synthetic rope.

Have one , love it , had a x8000i before the 9.5 no problems with it but the 9.5 is faster and much stronger. Stay with Warn. Just my opinion.

Alan,
Thanks for the heads up. Now I'll just wait till the end of the year for my Ramsey winch. That's if I win it....;D

I like the wireless remote feature of the Ramsey 9500 UT.

I run a 9500lb Mile Marker with 3/8 Amsteel rope. I can say that compared to a few of the Warns mine is rather slow on the reel in.

T-maxx is supposed to be a good brand as well, but if you're buying a new winch, I wouldn't go with anything less than a 9000lb. I might buy less if it was a steal of a deal.

Ramsey sent me a email with a notice of the wireless remolte is on sale now for $99 right now. You may look at the site to investigate.

After pricing them (Warn vs Ramsey) I going to go with the Ramsey 9500 UT.
If I don't win the give-away, I'll be ordering one through summitracing.com

I had a deal on a new Warn 9500Ti for a trade with a 77 EB Dana44 with disc I have but I somehow messed it up. Then it was for a used one now I'm getting impatient.

I've got an rep8000. It's meh at best. Why not go with an 8274 if you're thinking about spending that much money. It's not that much taller than those attached solenoid winches that you're looking at...
