I have an old but usable Ramsey 6000 I had on a toyota pickup i used to run was wondering if this unit would handle my Bronco for a while. I do realize an 8000 are bigger would be better, but if im not buried in mudd it should get me over the next bump.

I have always been told that you want a winch that can handle 3X the weight of your vehicle.

Reason: Chances are that when you need to use it you will be stuck in mud, a ditch or behind a really big rock.

If you got it use it, get ya a snatch block and that will help alot. I used a 6000 warn on my 69 back in the day pulled myself out of all kinds of slop. later get an upgrade for a bit of insurance. ;)

Dang, 3X's? I remember back in the day when it was something like 1.5x's your vehicle weight;) I guess that is like tires and axles nowadays though. It used to be adequate to run 35's (woah big) and a dana44 and 9inch where-as now you need 40's and dana60's minimum:eek:

Then again I run a 9000lb on my bronco. If I need more than that, I'll pull out the snatch block.

I think the 8000# winches are a good bet.

The beauty is, you won't hurt anything with a 6K. If you had a 12K, you could do damage before you knew it. Get all the equipment you will need and go for it. When you have some spare cash, upgrade and sell your 6K.

I have been very impressed with the Warn M8000. More than enough power to pull a stuck EB out of anything. I will agree with the others though, run what you have!

Last summer I broke pretty bad in a tricky spot (rear D20 output snapped). I could not move forward or backward under my own front drive power. My rear tires had just dropped off a good ledge that I had to get back over to get out. My buddy went around behind, hooked up with his M8000 and I was over in no time at all.

sell it and get a bigger winch. It's bad being stuck, it's worst being stuck with a under powered winch. a 6000# winch will probably get you by but it's all about confidence with a having a bigger faster winch to pull you out.
BTW Warn winches has a rebate going on this month of March.

1.5 times your weight is the rule of thumb, no way I'm hanging a 12k -15k winch off the front of my Bronco:eek:. Just need to carry a snatch block with you.

i got the 10k one that TMax makes
got it under 700 dollars shipped

I got my 9K TMax with synthetic rope for under $700. to my door. It worked fine for awhile and then it crapped out when I needed it most. I still need to trouble shoot it. I got 2 Warn XD9000i now, one for each rig.
