howzit guys.

my body guy has my windshield frame off, fixing the rust under the piano hinge...he said if he welds the new s/s hinge on that it'll rust underneath the hinge again due to not being able to paint the metal where he has to weld?? he is thinking about putting a few aluminum rivot's and then epoxying the hinge to the body...have any of you guys tried this? you think this is a good idea? any better ideas?

as always...any help is greatly appreciated!

mahalo!!

In another post on this forum a fellow suggested using 1/4 20 stainless "sidewalk" bolts to hold the windshield hinge. I had to look up " sidewalk bolts". It turn out that these bolt have a very large head that is fairly thin with a slot and Philips. I bought some on line and although I'm not quite there yet I will use these. I feel like these are much better that rivets...Just my 2 cents worth

I used stainless nutserts and and 1/4-20 pan head bolts.
No issues, no leaks.

I used a dozen, 10x32 stainless steel pan head screws with stainless nylox nuts. There's plenty of room for the pan heads. It's plenty strong, and the stainless reduces the possible rust issue.

If he insists that it needs to be welded on, just use a "weld through" primer at over $30 a can.

I am by far no expert but i had the same issue. Seemed as i looked at it the windshield was held on by the two large bolts not the hinge. Hinge was for folding windshield if interested. I am using two sided 3m servo tape. Same type you would mount servos in an rc car or plane. Hinge will stay put solid and am able to paint all the metal. Now if you plan to fold the windshield down might be likely to go another route.

Wow, that is some really good, out-of-the-box thinking! Kudos Hose101! Maybe now you can move up to Hose201.
