Wiring column mount tach

I'm going to install a column-mount tach and I'm getting ready to wire for it and have a couple questions.
Has anybody ever drilled a hole in the side of the column and ran the wiring through the hole and down the inside of the column to where the turn signal/horn wires exit? That would avoid having to run wires down the outside of the column and under the dash. I no longer have the column shifter, it's now the floor shift. Secondly, I have a 12 volt switched power wire, a ground wire, a wire for the light in the tach, and the tach lead off the MSD. Any other wires I need? (I have yet to buy the tach, I'm quite a way out from having it back on the road)
Thanks.
