One of the biggest issues with a Dana 60 is the stock style lockouts. They stick out so far that they are always getting bumped. It's even worse with Hummer style wheels or more back spacing. When you upgrade to 35 spline axles they even get weaker by virtue of thinner parts.
When I installed my 60 I opted to go straight to drive flanges because they are brutally strong and they are at least an inch shorter. There are some big disadvantages to running flanges and I experienced every one. When I heard about these new lockouts I had to try them.
My first impressions: They are very well designed and made. They default to locked so even if the knob was gone they'd still be locked. The instructions are very good and they mention grease again and again and again.
Here are some pics, first is one new lockout all spread out.
Then comparing the Yukon to Stock and to a drive flange from Sexton Offroad
Mostly assembled
Then ready to go put them to the real test.
They operated smoothly and easily.
My only concern with them is that the drive flange where it engages the hub is relatively narrow. My hubs have been turned down to fit 5 on 5.5 so they don't have as much meat as stock hub. Thus I worry the hub itself might be prone to expand and fail sooner than with a stock lockout or flange.
For a trail only rig I wouldn't have replaced my flanges. Mine is seeing more street time and these make perfect sense.
