ZF to Dana 20 AA Adapter input gear retainer question

How do I install the AA ZF to Dana 20 adapter input gear retainer into my Dana 20 (J-type)? Is it pressed on?

I checked all the clearances and it should fit. I go to put it in the Dana 20 and the retainer stops with about 3/8" left to go. ?:?

The AA instructions leave me holding a bag on this step.

Thanks for any insight.

Jim

I did mine many yrs ago so I don't remember details but I don't remember having any problems. Mine was a t. Type so maybe that's a difference.

For the most part all the AA and Ford Dana 20 bearing retainers work the same. Usually a slight tap with a rubber mallet will get you past the rubber o-ring and into the case the rest of the way. Also turn the shaft a little you could be hitting gear on gear. You probably have this together by now but if not I hope that helps.
