Okay after a long week of deciding man/auto i decided to go with manual trans. Looking at the ZF5 and was wondering if there is a certain one that would hold up with the hp/tq numbers i want to achieve. Around 400/400... Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. And also if anyone has one for sale. Try to kill 2 birds here...

The small blck ZF s542 is rated to 420 foot pounds. s547 is 470 foot pounds. Get the 4x4 version whatever you do and make sure you get the right case small block vs big block.

Gotchya! yeah i saw they had big and small block applications so we are good there. Wasnt sure about the ratings tho and it looks like even the zs542 will work great for my build.

Thx again!

Might be a bit hard to find a 547 as they came out about 1995 just when the small block was getting phased out so you'll only have about 2 years for that tranny. You'll be fine with either one.

I could be wrong but i bet they are all elec. I will try my local wrecking yards for a good one. I have found some sites that sell rebuilt ones so they are around and prices vary.

The mechanical speedo plugs into the transfer case, so the trans is irrelevant.

I'm assuming you'll adapt to the Dana 20, or bolt up an NP 205, both of which will take the stock Bronco speedo cable gear. The cases that come stock behind a ZF won't fit between the Bronco frame rails.
