It didn't seem so misaligned this time. I think I need to take you up on your offer, @nvrstuk to be sure.

Maybe I should try some dielectric grease or something?

I decided to take another look and it seems that it might be just my AC compressor that is out too far.

I took the belt off and ran it by hand on just the AC and PS and it seemed out on the AC so I lasered just those two and its off on the grooved laser as well as if I put a laser line along the last groove of the ps pump and the Alt, it shows the AC is out a half groove too far, which is a lot when that close to the PS.

EDIT: Or on the otherhand, maybe the AC was right before I pulled the bracket out and before it was just the PS pump that was back!

Will confirm with the other laser when I receive it and go from there and figure out which would be easier to move if this is all true.

If I was home the laser alignment tool would already be on its way!

I think the misalignment tolerance is something like .030" in 6" which to me seems like a LOT.

Before I bought the gauge & with building my own.brackets I kept everything within. 005" at 18" with my Roman Empire road building skill measuring devices! I had available! Crude but they worked.

I made bolt threaded adjusters so I could rotate my housings independently so I could adjust the York & the pwr strg pump without messing up the other one! lol

0.03 is prob barely ok. Each groove is about 0.05. If you can get if within 0.005, then clearly that's outstanding!

I might try to dig up another laser and make my tool a little different while I wait for yours.

I found my other line laser that is super strong and ran a line from the PS first groove to all the others and this time again that whole bracket seemed outside.

So, I decided to mess with it using what I had on hand and moved it in about .0355

While it isn’t perfect, it's a start. I'm not even sure you can hear it in the video I took, but I could hear it slightly myself in person.

Thanks! I'll still use your laser to get it perfect but I was able to go for a drive and not be embarrassed!!!

Use your crank pulley as "reference point", make sue each pulley is alignment with the crank pulley and you should have it.

You inspired me to check my buddies pulley alignment with the crankshaft damper.
-I got alt pulley that needs to space out as well as power steering.
-I am going to get a alternator shim for the pulley but how do you shim the explorer Pwr strg pump out?
-Almost looks as if the pump needs to be milled or the bracket.
-I'll post a pick using my "Portuguese laser".

Don- the pulley needs to move on the shaft . You could space it out with shims.

You can't. The entire bracket needs to be shimmed behind it and that's what I've been dealing with. It's SO much fun getting shims back there with the stuff installed. Yesterday, I did it one at a time, with them all loose, using an extendable magnet I lowered the shim into place and put the bolt through it.

If you can't do that, you could prob get a shim behind the PS pulley, but it's made to fit on there without one.

Thats what I used the first couple go-rounds also.

then Scotch tape, it is very thin and Brakleen dissolves it later. :) (wear gloves & ventilate-stuff is proven t& strongly linked to Parkinsons) and my best buddy who used Brakleen a lot has Parkinsons and another guy here I know in the auto world has it also. :(

I love how everything you do is Portuguese!

I did the same thing and you can see it's off but the thickness on the outside of the pulleys is also different.

It'll be interesting to see with the laser where it is now, although I would bet that with a new belt I am good enough...I still want it better though. Tired of ruining belts.

Great call on spacing out the brackets. I also modified my "Portuguese laser" to account for the crank pulley rim thickness. Much closer now. Thanks to all
