Exhaust Pics!

Here are some pics of how the exhaust looks on mine routed out the side! I liked how it looked out the back better but this is fine as well. ;D

Hopefully these help some of you that are gonna do this as well. Definitely worth it IMHO. The fumes are basically gone as of now!

The PO of Elmer put a 90 degree bend to the rear so the pipe comes out to the body line and then turns to the back. No fumes at all in the cab.

Per someone's recommendation above, I put a new fuel tank cap on my 76 today before heading out for a roughly 50-60mile round trip. Stopped for gas just before getting home, pulled into the garage, and much to my amazement, the new cap seems to have all but eliminated the strong smell of gas in the garage!

10 bucks well spent.

Once I get my new exhaust on, I think my lovely wife will no longer be complaining of the strong gasoline odor! Long hours in the garage, lots of credit card receipts, etc I'm sure will still be on the list, but no more gas odor!

Got some photos of the new exhaust system today. It was done last week, and I'm very happy with it. The shop I took it to was very nice and friendly and tested out 4 different mufflers. I ended up with the Flowmaster 50s. I much prefered the Flowmaster to the Magnaflow, it's a different tone, the FM seems a bit more proper to me on the Ford V8.

I took the shop the following photo's that I stole from Tony's build thread, and they basically replicated that: http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207986

A few tweaks - they added the clamp per my request so that the tailpipe section could be easily removed if needed. He also put the "Y" location a few inches further downstream because I told him a set of headers were likely in the not-too-distant future. And a little angle cut at the end of the tailpipe to match the curve of the body line. 2.5" into 3" tailpipe section. Honestly the 3" looks a bit oversized to me. Sound is good, if not still a bit loud on a vehicle with no interior.

I was previously running true duals that turned down under the car. After getting a new gas cap and the new exhaust system with the side exit, the fumes are gone! Very happy about that!

what is the canister on the pasenger side then, looks like couple of tubes comin out of. They are cut off ofcourse and I'm not sure if that is a charcoal cannister. looks as if they used to go to the stock air cleaner.

My 73 has a plastic canister behind a metal plate inside the cab. It is behind one of the seats. The plate has 2-3 screw holding the plate to the tub. It is a vent canister. Well 2 of the plastic tubes had broken. I got some JB weld Then used duct tape to make a trough to hold the JB Weld in place while it dried. NO MORE GAS SMELL!

Here is a link to the canister and fix. It has been 5 years of lots of miles a trails and it woks perfect.

I found 2 of the lines from the rear tank to the vapor canister had rubbed on the frame and had small holes releasing gas vapors, the vapor canister behind the seat had a small crack and the lines were loose to the canister, one of the lines from the vap canister that was to go to the charcoal can was pluged and there was no charcoal can, so I replaced everything and I do not have a gas smell any more and I run topless.

I had the same problem, gas rich smell both running and after parked. Turned out that I had a cylinder down and it was pushing the unburnt gas out through the exhaust. Replaced the plug, wire, and distributor. Cylinder started firing, end of problem. Could be the result of any one of the issues the guys have mentioned, but this is one that is easy to diagnose and cheap to fix.
