So I found some more rust that will need to get taken care of before I can get the Bronco painted.... I'm Kinda bummed out about it but that is the way it goes.. My painter would fix it for me, but at this point he has to move on to another project. I'll jump back in line about the middle of Feb so I'll have time to get it done myself and save some money..

My half top started out as a piece of rusty junk when I got it and at one point I fixed the front edge. when I tried to fix the roof skin it never looked quite right to me. So now that the top has had about 5 years to rust some more I am going to try and fix it right. I am going to take the top frame and back panel back down to bare metal and then glue in a new fiberglass roof skin from Bronco Design. Then have it painted all Wimbledon white. here are some pics of the tear down and fitment of the new skin.

I am also working on re skinning the doors. As you can see in the pics I have my work cut out for me. I am going to finish the top first. Then if these doors prove to be above my skill set to repair then I will just pay the money for some new ones. I am going to give it my best shot though.

How did the fiberglass skin fit? Impressed with your door work as well.

It fit pretty good. Just dropped right on just as it should. Just waiting on getting my media Blaster fixed. Then after I get it blasted it should just glue right down. Thanks for the kind words about the doors. Maybe I'll feel better about them after I get them blasted!

3 more months have passed without much more progress. I have ordered some parts that are needed to finish it up, stuff I forgot to keep out when I sold all my Bronco parts. One thing I need that I can’t find new is extended shift linkage. I have a 2.5 inch body lift and the ones I tried to fab up myself keep breaking. So if any one reading this knows of a set I’d like to talk about buying them with you.

I just talked to my painter and I am next…. Looks like it is going to paint in 2 weeks! Crossing my fingers that nothing gets in the way this time. It is going to be the only Project he has in his shop so it should be painted relatively quickly…. By the way I have changed my mind again….. I bought some Bronco design door inserts and I am going to make this a “Roadster”. Yea I just want to get it on the road and I don’t have time to mess with fixing the doors or the top. So for now I am just doing the inserts.

I also haven’t decided on color yet. I want it to be a stock 67 color just not red or black so if you have a favorite color chime in and I’ll give it some consideration.

I got a few parts from Bronco Graveyard today. I am buying these smaller parts to make sure that I am not putting any questionable/junk parts on this Bronco. I Hope to get them installed this weekend.

Also I think I have decided on Dark Blue / Wimbledon white paint colors. I am also kicking around the idea of putting the rocker panel stripe on it. I really want an "old time Feel" paint scheme in it.

headed to get paint NEXT WEEK! ;D

I got the Bronco Design door inserts trimmed and set in place. It took a lot more trimming than I thought it should but they fit ok and they are built pretty good.. I am going to get some help from my Body/ painter guy to do the final install on them. I am going to take a couple days off work this week so I should have time to get all the parts I have been buying the last few weeks installed..... Starting to look like I might be able to drive it this year but trying not to jinx myself by saying it out loud!

I finally got the Bronco Design half top roof skin glued on today. This was a lot of fun I like when I am able to save old parts from going to the scrapper. Hats off to Bronco Design..... They make some Nice parts!

Thanks Guys! My excitement was short lived on the half top though. after a week to think about it I just don't think that I am going to use this one. I have become a little pickier about the quality of parts going on the Bronco. This half top is decent but just not quite what I am looking for. I want the quality of the finished Bronco to reflect the time and effort and money I have sank into it.. I'll probably be offering the half top up for sale/ trade and I am looking into getting a fiberglass unit from Bronco Design.

I have dumped ALOT of money into the Bronco in the last 3 weeks to get it ready for paint. My wife's cousin and I are going to paint it. well his father passed away last week so he understandably needs a little time to take care of some family business. I talked to him tonight and we will see how it goes but shooting for 2 weeks.... I am ready when he is!

In keeping with my desire to build a quality Bronco, I bought these doors to use instead of fixing the other set. I do not intend to put them on right away but in case I decide to put them on later, I wanted to get them and have everything painted at the same time. That way I don't have to worry about color matching at a later date. Everything looked good on them for a few minutes... Then I noticed a problem! Needless to say one of them will be going back! Good thing I have a few weeks before it goes to paint!
