I’d remove the transfer case cross member and it’s brackets if and when u have it dipped or coated. You will be mad at ur self later down the road.

Frame repairs complete and thanks to migs!

Frame repairs are now complete. Front and rear body mount areas have been repaired using the pieces provided by classicbronco member migs - highly recommended!

Both rear upper shock mounts replaced with pieces from Bronco Graveyard. The frame has been de-burred to clean it up from how it left the factory (50 years ago last week).

All measurements have been taken to verify that the chassis is straight and will line up correctly with the body. As we thought since there is no family knowledge of any wrecks, it is all straight.

It is now back with the blaster, waiting in line for powder coat in chassis black.

Zinc plating

I’ve had pieces of my Bronco scattered across five shops in four counties. The most pieces were at the electroplating place and I brought them home yesterday. I’ve got some sorting to do. These are before and after pictures. I am happy with the results!

Welded and Epoxy sealer

The welding is complete on the tub and it is now sealed. It is nice to see the 73 windshield on for the first time. 289, 3 speed and Dana 20 are in the queue at the machine shop.

Thank you, Ryan! I’m looking forward to bringing another 68 back to life. I had access to a 73 parts rig years ago and got bucket seats and a nice windshield and wiper set-up among other things. I had considered re-using the original windshield and vac wipers for originability and character but ultimately decided to “modernize” on this aspect of the build. The 68 windshield and bench seat are resting in the rafters of my shop for now.

Nice thread, can I ask what made you go the bake route vs a chemical dip? Did media blast before baking as well? I’m also in Mooresville so when it comes time to get the body on the frame, I can help if you need another pair of hands.

Thank you! Good to find someone in Mooresville, and I am happy to lend a hand also. The baking was a bit easier on the budget for my tub and also included blasting. With all the sealing that is being done with the body work, I feel I will be getting the same result. While the tub got baked, the frame got dipped.

I hear that, Cash is King. I’m sure it was fun and frustrating at the same time to sub-contract your build. I’m still in the exploratory phase with mine but when I get to stage I’d like peak at your vendor list. I figured I’d start with the vendors that NicksTrix uses if they can work in small jobs like mine would be. I subscribed to your thread to watch your progress. See you around Chuck!

Thanks guys! An update on recent progress, I am focusing on being ready to start the build as I am expecting to bring my powder coated frame home soon. I need to have a rolling chassis ASAP to keep the body work on track. The axle housings have been POR-15’d with chassis black along with new coil cups etc. The rear axles have new bearings installed and the front axles have new u-joints installed. Driveshafts are being rebuilt and balanced. Rear driveshaft is being shortened 9” to accommodate a Rancho Borg Warner overdrive. Weather permitting, will work to get POR-15 silver on the radius arms and bell housing this weekend. Dana 30 rebuild kit and front disc conversion kit are in boxes and ready to go.

Frame is home, the build begins

The powder coating is now complete. I am happy with the result. My son and daughter each helped me install a shackle to kick off the build. Next up is to install leaf springs and rear axle housing, then move to the front and get the radius arms and D30 attached.
