My 72 half cab build.

I figured I would start a build thread after spending all this time reading others on this site, I think this is a great site and enjoy spending hrs sitting in front of the computer reading all available on here. My son was interested in doing a restoration project on a eb so we went out and bought a 66 in very rough condition. He is 14 and wanted to learn mechanics and bodywork so I agreed that this would be a great project for that, and since I have spent the first 20 years of my working career professionally restoring old cars I felt I had a lot I wanted to teach him. He started it off by taking it apart outside in January while snow covered the ground around here, Then we got started cleaning things up, mostly with the use of a sandblaster. Soon as I figure out how to re-size my pics, I'll start posting some of the frame and some of the work we did to it.

I checked out your gallery.. Looks like you havesomework to do. I built my first one with my dad when I was 14 and finished it soon after I got my license. Your son will never forget the experience. Good luck can't wait to see the pics!

Can someone tell me how you are getting your pics on here to be able to click on them to enlarge them? You guys can't see much in these little pics.

Picture size

Try using photoscape which can be downloaded at: photoscape.org for free. Open your picture in program and click on size in edit mode and save as 1024 x 768. Since you are a contributor you can upload the pictures from your pc, just change name of file so you will know which are the new size. There are other programs you can use but this is one I am familiar with. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your project. Hope this helps, shaun1300

By now my son was thinking this thing is never going to see the road again and began losing interest in it, but I love to sandblast and we were almost to the point of starting the really fun fab work.

It was a nice day so after doing a quick sandblasting on the front section of the tub to clean it up a bit, I thought I would start trimming some floor pans to fit.

i think its totally doable! gonna take a few calls to the vendors to get all the replacement panels! lol shouldnt be that bad now that its torn down this far.

I drove to Virginia and bought a small lot of parts from a guy on here and these door posts are what he cut off his truck so I thought I would give it a try fixing them up a bit and using them.

After fixing those door posts I bent up some kick panels out of some 18 gauge sheet metal and got to fitting that stuff. At this point my son has totally given up and keeps telling me I'm wasting my time and he is only periodically helping me.

Too bad you are so far from me, I got a complete tub (1/2 rusted) in pieces on my trailer that I wish some one could benefit from. Keep up the hard work, I am right with you on my own frame off rebuild, lucky for me I got a tub with minor surface rust and a frame with no rust. I am basically moving axles and suspension, and redoing the whole drive train. I will keep an eye on your progress and see if I can offer any help.

Thanks, It has been fun so far and I thought about finding a better tub but this was supposed to be a learning experience for my son so we decided to make as many panels as we can ourselves.
