I dont know this might be stupid. But how does this sound. I have a bronco in Michigan that I want to get home. It's safe tucked away in a shed in the woods of michigan. If I fluy from FL to Traverse city one way its a 200 dollar flight. Now I cant rent a car because there is no return area any where near where the bronco is. So U haul would work because I can drop it off in town and bum a ride back to the bronco (5 miles away). I could walk back if I had to. So get the bronco running and head for Tenn. I want to go back roads / state roads most of the way. The Bronco has 4.11 gears and 30'' tires so the 289 is singing at 3K around 65/70 The 289 is good turning 3K all day thats not a real issue to me. It's like 850 miles to townsend. Flight is in mich at 1:30 on a TUE. So rent the u haul and drive to the Bronco. Turn in the U haul and get back to the Bronco. Get it ready to go and spend the night at the property. Leave early on Wednesday morning and I would guess that there is not much chance of making Tenn on that day (Wed) so roll in to the show in the afternoon on Thursday. Stay for Friday and some of Saturday and head out for home Sat night? Who Knows, Sunday morning? Got a few things to pick up in N.C. and then book it for home. If anything goes wrong its fix on the fly and that what makes it fun, right? Hey Michigan guys is there still snow in the woods up there? just thought of that. I would be the first one on the road into the property this year. So stupid or not too smart, or sounds like a good time?

I say go for it. Sounds like a fun road trip. I talked to my Dad earlier today, and they do not have any snow left.

Sounds like a great Idea Roger, The drive from Traverse City back down the state would be a great one, Ohio not so much. I know the guy who built that Bronco so I don't think there will be many on the road repairs.
Map out your route, Find Bronco guys along the route just in case.

I love this. Just the kind of roadkill adventure I try to talk my buddy into doing when he finds a new Bronco. But we always end up with him taking a trailer

Good luck ! Wish I was going with you !

Sounds awesome - if something happens in route and you have to limp into Townsend be sure to post up if you need anyone to throw tools or parts into their truck to bring to Townsend to help out.

Interesting plan... I say go for it.

One suggestion, plan your route and post it on here. Then take volunteers for Bronco brothers you could call in case you need help. I for one am right off I81 near the state line of VA and TN and will gladly supply my cell to call if you need help within 100 or so miles in any direction... I have a trailer and tools as needed.

Bring a go pro camera and take a pic every 90 seconds for us. Or buy a bunch of recording cards and video the whole thing! Great adventure.

I don't know how long the Bronco has been sitting. If its in doubt, rent a uhaul and a tow dolly. Get the EB, dolly it to return spot, or drop it at a NAPA, get it running where you know you have parts close.

Other than that, go for it. My Bronco had sat for 2 years plus, I bought it, got it running, and a week later drove it St Louis to south of Lexington, wheeled all weekend, drove it home (with a broken D30 front end).

Bring some tools

If it has been sitting long I hope for your sake the gas tank(s) is/are near empty, gas does not have a long "shelf life".

Fresh gas is a must, premium is a good idea since it will raise the quality of whatever is in the tank.

Good luck.

Fuel could be an issue. I had filled it with premium and used the marine stabil. But it has been almost 3 years. The battery will be dead. The carb could be gummed up but I bet it wont be. When I got it in the shed last time I pinched the gas line and ran it out of fuel as I was pouring some marvel mistery oil down the carb. I will get a set of plugs and a battery in town. There is more than enough anti freeze in it so I think Im good there. yes I will drive the u haul to the bronco first. get it running and then turn the u haul in. There are still a bunch of what if's and i am not sure this is a good plan but it gets the bronco home.

Bax, you know a turtle never gets anywhere unless he sticks his head out! Stick it out and come on to the SC. If it breaks along the way, there will be plenty of Bronco folks to watch you fix it!
