Walker Quiet Flow vs Magnaflow comparison

Would l like to post my comparison of these mufflers.
My engine is a stock 96 Explorer with BC Bronco headers and 2.5" pipes.
The Magna Flow is part # 12468
The Walker is part # 21400

The Magna flow was installed first with no pipes exiting rear of truck, just turn downs out the muffler. This sucker is LOAD with horrible drone. At idle it is nice but with any load on the engine, such as climbing a hill, the decibels are incredibly high over a 100 I bet. Tried to talk to passenger and needed to yell. Horrible drone from 1600-2400 rpm especially on deceleration. Granted pipes out the back or side would help this muffler but I don't think they could tame this race muffler. If you like the Nascar sound and don't mind the yelling and head aches go for it.

Purchased the Walker upon advice here. I like it. Going to exit behind rear tire. It has an OEM sound level with a hint of growl when i put my foot in it. Only down side is a hint of drone upon deceleration from 2200-1500 rpm. I read some where it is nature of 5.0 with 2 into 1 mufflers to drone. What ever, that much of an issue. I can carry on a conversation, hear the tires on the road and actually listen to music without fearing hearing loss. A big plus, more low end torque with this muffler. Seat of the pants dyno reads a fair amount. Internally the tubes reduce to what looks like 2" so the added back pressure sure helps the Explorer motor. I plan on doing a stroker, either 330 or 347, when I kill this one and confident this muffler will handle duties as it is specd for larger displacement motors.

This video has both mufflers but the decibel difference is not apparent, they both sound loud. Should have placed my decibel meter in front of the camera to record sound levels. Trust me on this the difference is HUGE!

Thanks for the comparison J! That'll help a lot of members that are at that stage of making muffler decisions.
Haven't checked the video out yet, but will as soon as I can.

Oh, and yes, in an EB the turn-down style makes more noise difference than you might think. But you're right to point out that the difference in mufflers would likely have made the deal.

Thanks again.

Walker muffler

I just cut off my new Magnaflow and am in the middle of installing a Walker Quietflow SS #21533. I should have it welded in tonight. I'm with you, the MF was loud under any kind of load. I hated it. I will say the walker is a huge muffler but I've got it mocked up nice and tight so it should work fine. Hoping for good results.

Could you post some photos of the mock up or when complete?

Thx

The Walker is about 6" longer, 3" taller and 2" wider.
Fits fine as you can see in the video.
Only problem now is I wanted to install Wild Horses anti-wrap bar to control axle housing twist under acceleration. The muffler is in the way. Any suggestions?

I just fought my WH Wrap Trap during the building or re-building of my exhaust.
Got it all to fit. Could have but didn't use the Wrap Trap cross member as an exhaust hanger mount.
Really tight with Flowmaster Delta 50's. They are really big.
Just have your mufflers stop before the cross member.

Youjust can't compare two physically different sized mufflers thinking they should sound about the same. The larger bodied muffler will make a WORLD of difference in noise.... I agree that a smaller bodied muffler that doesnt have the physical ability to muffle the exhaust is a royal pita!!! Mine are waaay too loud but a 14" long muffler doesnt have much of a chance behind a stroker!
Glad you found one that works for ya! Walkers are a nice quiet mjuffler!

BTW I forgot to say that im battling the similar issue but I can only run a 14" muffler btw my t case and rear cross member....

Nice comparison Jsulse! I have the same Walker. BC headers and 2:1 exhaust. There's pictures of it installed on my write-up

It's a big muffler, but tucks up nicely between the body mount on the frame and the spring mount on the frame. I have a video of it running, but the fan kind of drowns out the muffler (no body).

The Walker is a factory spec replacement for GM trucks from the 70s-90s with 350-454 engines. Walker couldn't give me flow specs but I spoke with a GM mechanic and he gave me the specs since I'm running a 347. Can't recall now but it was plenty for even a stroked 351.
