So I have all of the original paperwork and documents that show the P as well as the correct VIN on the frame but the P is missing from the warranty tag. Interesting.

That’s got to be close to, or the latest production still titled as a 1972. Mine is as well and has the same interior. Did yours come with Ranger stripes?
When I got it, it had been repainted. So I don't know if it had the Ranger stripes. Did yours have the ranger stripes and ranger logo on the glove box? Or did yours have the Explorer wood paneling on the doors?

My titled 72 is P89446. Don't have a Marti Report but tag says 10/72 production. Assuming a mid-Oct build based on VIN/Date shown above by sebvox.

Gary,
Been awhile since I visited this thread and forgot about the P89 series VINs. Have heard different theories, but sure wish someone who worked at Ford back in the day could shed some light on the reason these were held back and released as 1972s.

That’s actually cool as heck! Sure you could get a new plate issued by Marti Auto, but no way I’d change that one out.

The exterior was repainted by the PO, but he gave me the pics of it in original paint when he picked it up. If only he had never had it painted, would’ve buffed out and been a nice survivor. Had the Ranger stripes, no emblem on the glovebox and the Ranger woodgrain door panels. (The Explorer models have solid color vinyl panels, no woodgrain).

I was talking with Andy about the dash, I'm not 100% positive but I don't think when this model rolled off the line, they had color keyed dash pads. This dash is original and doesn't look to have been removed and is standard black, but the original owner may have ordered a Blk dash instead of the color-keyed one. Does anyone have a 73 Ranger that was built before NOV 72 that has the color-keyed dash?
