I am trying to remove the pulley from my 1989 Mustang 5.0 power steering pump. It has a hex with a thread in the bottom in the middle of the pulley (pulley is separate). Is this part of the shaft or do I remove this piece before I use the puller? Chilton and Alldata only say "remove pulley". I do have the correct puller (half moon, not the three finger style).

The allen you are referring to is part of the shaft, you do not need to remove anything to pull the pulley. Just attach the puller to the pulley and crank away.
