'66 hood?

I understand there are 2-3 different types of hoods for the gen 1 Broncos.

My hood is beat to $#!+ with a decent tear in the middle and at all of the bracing points on the edges, aside from the normal dents. It could be repaired but I'm leaning toward finding another.

So, is there anything special / irreplaceable (within reason) with my hood? The truck is a u13 so I'd prefer to keep it as original as possible, within reason.

PS--yes, that's a block of wood somebody used as a brace.

Bonus question: anything special about the fenders? Again it looks like somebody wanted to fit between trees and didn't quite get through. And I see $200 will buy new ones via eBay. I see some folks say they're done but others say they don't fit well just curious.

I can't complain. The tub is very solid and I'm happy to swap the front clip, less the grille.

?? I only know of two types...early budd bodies had four rod braces and one less cross braces and later 66-67 were like yours. The below pictures are two early Budd body hoods w a 66-67 hood in the middle picture...as far as I know? Also the hood props on 66-67 are straight on the end so the hoods have a small hole for it...

You just might have the third version of hoods? Actually the second or transitional version. Yours has the 4 cross braces, but no lateral brace and that odd brace for the windshield latch.

I have been looking at pictures of several 66 roadsters and I think the hood changed around 775000. I do not find any 3rd style for 66. I am not familiar with the later stuff, is it possible that your hood is a later one?
Show us a closer picture of that odd little brace, might just be hand made?

I have pictures of one 781000 range that has the four cross braces, 2 lateral braces and one short piece of channel for the windshield latch.

Sure. Which brace are you after? The left-right toward cowl or grille? Or the diagonals or the small center mount on lower left-right?

Ps--I have 4-6 stress cracks on edge of braces. Is this normal? The front flip is very rough relative to rest of tub, though it's a real 66 grille so assume it wasn't changed after a crash or ???

That's the one that just sold in TX and it falls in the right time frame.

And correct you are. Got this Sunday night out of Vera TX. Got my Craigslist alert, called and was serious first apparently....then drove all day and night to retrieve. Very happy with it. My last project was far from rust free (even originally) so this thing should be cake! Though I don't know jack about Broncos.

Sorry to hi-jack, my mid? October 65 built truck (VIN 767689) has the later style hood, but all the rest of the tub is Budd. The grill was swapped to a later "Sport" grill (grill trim & holes for FORD letters), so I know it wasn't original. I don't know if it should have the early hood or not. I wonder if the accident that damaged the grill also took out the hood. I think they had a donor parts truck involved, since the front buckets were swapped to a bench/bulkhead too.

Yes, your 767689 would have had the same hood as Wichita's pictures. Can post up some pictures of your roadster?

The small brace where the windshield latch bolts on is what we want to see up close. All the others are a hat channel. Yours appears to be flat and of a heavier gage steel?
