I finally made it down to pick up my U13 Roadster. Here's what I know;

It was built in Oct. 65. Sahara Beige. Bench Seat. It's a 2 owner truck. It was purchased/used as 1 of 3 on a Ranch in W. Texas. This particular vehicle was the ranch owners personal ride. It has about 19k original miles and has spent the better part of the past 16 yrs in storage. It had a couple of whiskey dents (1 from a pissed off bull), so the PO took the body off the frame, blasted/repainted the frame, did some minor body work and repainted body. It seems 100% original to me, except the paint, chrome headlight rings and a couple of the dash knobs. I need you '66 gurus to take a look at these pics and let me know what you see. I've got a couple of questions;

a) The latch on the top of the windshield is painted body color. My suspicion is that's not how they came.
b) Is that gas cap original?
c) Are those tire/jack tools supposed to be mounted behind the drivers seat?
d) The heater core seems to have a leak. Are those the same as the later years, or special to 66?

I'm pretty excited about this thing. Plans are to slowly "restore" it, while at the same time drive it around town. Nothing that wasn't original will get done to it. Any help identifying anything special about it would be appreciated.

Nice truck! I by no means an expert, but here are my thoughts.

Yes, the sliding bolt of the windshield should be cad plated, not painted.

Gas cap isn't right.

Yes tools should be behind the driver, held by the clip you have on the floor (yours looks like it has been bent flat), then another clip secured with a carriage bolt and wingnut into the key way that is further left of the clip attached to the floor.

Couple other notes, grill center and side mirror should be Wimbeldon white, with Ford in black on the grill. As you Mention headlight rings should be white, but those are later (they have adjuster access slots). Lastly on tailgate, the pull handle should be cad plated, and the Ford, should be white.

Also you can buy a repro jack hold down top piece, if you wanted one.

And a question to the real 66 experts, shouldn't the spare tire be on the devider? The key way is there, and no back seat option?

A lot of great things about this truck, enjoy it, and thanks for sharing it.

What's the body code on the Vin badge? That should reveal the rear seat option.

Things I noticed: gauge cluster is not the original one from '66, horn button isn't either. Defroster ducts are missing. As you pointed out, a couple of the dash knobs aren't correct.

I know there were several '66 rear view mirrors. Never seen one like yours before.

Sweet ride regardless.

Metal drivers side fresh air box was gone by October? Or do you suppose that was changed?

What is it about the gauge cluster that makes you think it isn't '66?
