Hmmm....... my 71' is a December made k68***...............so yes that is bizzaro.

Seems like I've seen mention of other mistakes on there, can't imagine an entire years worth of VIN numbers wrong though...but it looks that way.

I don't know that the VIN's are that hard and fast when they are that close to a month/sequence change. Would be interesting to see what a Marti report says. It will narrow it down to the actual day.

I was looking for a particular part for the 74, and the ford dealer ask for the vin, problem is they said it is not a valid vin number, but that's is the vin number. I got a marti report and it told me everything about my 74.

The VIN decoders are not always accurate. I've seen more than one error on broncohio, so I wouldn't think too much of it.

Order a Marti and you'll know exactly when it was built. But I'd say it was in September like the sticker says.

The thing that's going to blow your mind is it's really a '71.

^^^ What he said.

The Model Year for Ford starts in August.

That's why you can buy a 2016 car now, even though it's 2015.

Unless I'm misreading his post, he doesn't think he has a 70'.
The Broncohio page he posted is for a 71'...........his post doesn't imply that he has a 70', just a bronco built in 9/70' with a 10/70' serial number according to Broncohio.

70' info isn't even close to what his serial number is.

thanks okie4570 .... I know its a 71 model !

sykanr0ng ... I am ok w. a car that's got a aug.-dec. built date being the next years model ... but what gets me is when you got like this 05/10 Eos and when you pull its vin ( WVWAA7AH1BV000383 ) it shows as a 2011 model !
The used blue book value between a 11 and 2012 model year is +3K !

clarrance ... compare to yours this one is not show-worthy !! how rare is a raven black sport w. all the chrome ( no roof rail tho ) bling ?

the highest 09/70 vin I know of is K1506x This one, at 1475 into production of 10/70 puts it around Oct 3rd. (@ approx 665 vins a day).

I was told that for the first few months in the 71 model year the assembly line had a problem w. getting all the dana 44s they needed. So as they ran out of 44s they would just move the unfinished Eb of to the side to be completed at a later time. To get ahead of the schedule they would move orders w. dana 30s and FLKs up in the production date !

This all would make sense and would explain it nicely ... but this black horse sports a dana 44 !

Did by chance fords production month end w. the last working day in the last week of the month and not w. the first calendar day of the month ??

Too mysterious for my simple mind to grasp :)

When do we get to see pics?

I've seen many different production charts. They don't always agree. It seems to me that an error of +/- a month is normal. A Marti report would get you the real build date and you could use that result to guesstimate the sequence number range for the exact date you want.

I copied this from wikipedia, so take it for what it's worth:

In the United States, for regulation purposes, government authorities allow cars of a given model year to be sold starting on January 2 of the previous calendar year. For example, this means that a 2017 model year vehicle can legally go on sale on January 2, 2016.[2] This has resulted in a few cars in the following model year being introduced in advertisements during the NFL's Super Bowl.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_year

Mine was according to the broncohohio decoder built in August, which that year was the second month of production. (oops again :-[ )

It has a Dana 30 currently.

Are you the original owner?

It was the usual practice for them to replace a failed D30 with a D44

I recently bought a 2002 Crown Vic P71 at auction. I took the paperwork into my insurance agent, and she told me it was a 2003. The VIN is never an easy thing to pin down.

There is no etched-in-stone day or month that a new model year starts being built. It varies by year, and by manufacturer. Even Bronco model year changes came in various months.
And then there are the mistakes at the DMV's, which are probably legion.

Does your 44 have ball joints or king-pin bearings FRANKO? Just curious to see if it's "one of those" front diffs.
If so, it'll be only the second one I've seen in a '71. Most of them seemed to have been under '70's. But obviously with such a close cross-over, anything could happen.
