Bumper lift to eliminate body gap

Working on something fun for this nasty weather Friday and my entire hunkering down from outbreaks of corona virus. I have decided that my classic bronco needs to look more classic. So going back to stock bumpers. I hate bumper body gap and I have a 1” body lift. Which I believe I have to keep.

I have been thinking about this for a while. Basically copy’s the dufftuff bumper inserts (great design) then it will lift the stock bumper up 1”. Working on different designs that push it out while also moving it forward. Currently I’m around 1-2” forward of the stock frame horns. Open to ideas. I hate the bumper gap from body lifts. I personally would rather have a 1-2” forward bumper then a gap. The filler panels work, but it’s not something I love the looks of. Also the goal is make this as strong as possible.

Next is to draw it in on the computer and look at design/ modeling ideas

First rendering. I think I will connect the back for the bumper forks area. Then push the elevated bumper forks back as far as possible. Can someone measure the stock bumper from the edge to the holes?

Not bad to lift em up an inch. I've seen guys run a 1/4" steel 2x4 or whatever size fits behind/inside the stock bumper for strength.

I'd love to be able to do this with my back bumper and get rid of that gap without putting in a panel of some sort. I'd be willing to pay for something like this if you figure it out!!!

I'm with you 100 percent on the body to bumper gap, I can't stand it. The easiest way I can think of is with 1"steel pucks under the bumper. You would need 4 per bumper with a hole drilled in each one for the bolts. You would retain all the stock mounting points. Instead of the bumper swallowing the frame horn the bottom lip of the bumper would go in between the frame horn and sit on a puck sitting on the bottom of the frame. Same arrangement on the top. 1" longer bolts would be needed. This method would keep the bumper from being pushed out. Just another idea to ponder.

I think it needs to be as strong as I can make it. Our bumpers are one of the few defenses we have in an accident. I think 1-2” out will be almost not noticeable.

Bumper lift design is about done. Next is buying a bumper to test it with. This raises it 1” then pushes it forward 1.5”. I should be able to weld all aspects on both sides for strength. It will he made out of 1/4” steel. Same as Duffs uses. Just say no to bumper gap!

I had the body shop make a rear pan filler piece. Didn’t know they were avail commercially.
We have a 1-1.5” body lift.
The rear bumper looks fine at the stock height with the filler piece.

I forgot to ask them to match the front grill with a filler piece. We put the bumper on the front and about gagged. It looked horrible. So I cut the horns off, raised them 1.25” and rewelded them on, adding support. It looks waaaay better. And it hides the hole so I no longer kick myself for not doing the front filler piece.
