Is there a good tech write up on removing gear set and installing new set? I have some help setting up the new set but I never removed gears before.

Get ready....Dana's are a bitch but the nine inch is a breeze....but you can do the Dana.

Things that really helped me was getting set up bearings for setting up your shims easily. They are slightly wallowed out so you can slip them on and off until you get your shims dialed in.
The other thing that helped was a $139 dollar Harbor Freight press. Money well spent.

Set up bearings were really crucial to maintaining my sanity.

I got my set-up bearings from Leon Rosser Jeep Parts.
Tried to look the bearings up only to find that they went out of business in '03......man I am getting old. It just doesn't seem that long ago but I guess it was, lol

Thanks guys .... my son is going to teach the old man something this time. He has had to opportunity to work at an local EB shop so he his learned how to set up a few gears sets . I have a HF press which hopefully will get the job done. I’m going to start tear down this weekend.

Well Shit ... setup bearings.... dam. I guess I will have to ask around. God this looks like it’s going to be a PITA

I made set up bearings using bearings from o'rielly's. Takes about 10 min per bearing to hone them out witha drill and a drum sanding bit from harbor freight. Make sure they are the same thickness as your final bearings or its a waist of time.

I saw this done on good old YouTube.,, I wonder if my local auto parts store has bearing for it

Measure your old bearings that you remove. If they are the same then you could sand them out and use them.

Started my install last night. Got pinion set . I went to put ring and carrier in . It would not seat . I pulled it all apart and test fitted ring and carrier again, it went in with out a problem. So the pinion had to be the problem. I placed the old gear set next to the new and noticed the engagement . I think it’s a high pinion set.

The old set is on the bottom and new set is up top.

Hopefully I will have the right set in my hands tomorrow. That set is completely wrong. It’s a High Pinion and reverse rotation. Not even a BFH can fix that. It’s all a learning experience.

Nice to see a father son story. Did you use Timken bearings? Were the old bearing the same width as the new ones? Did you hone out the old ones? This is close to one of the most technical aspects of doing anything on the bronco, besides rebuilding the engine. Good for you to tackle it. ;D
What gear oil are you breaking it in with?

Sorry for late reply Billy
I used Temkin bearing I friend let me barrow a set of set up bearings that he uses not sure what brand they measured the same . Trusted my son with this one but the pattern looked stop on to me. I’m using 76 MP 80W90 and Yukon additive for the Dura Grip
