We are going in for the third time on my Explorer conversion Front seal leak. First time was our fault as the lip got turned in. Second time no clue why it leaking. We do not have an oil slinger on it, anybody had any similar issues with this.

Thanks in advance.

Did you oil or grease the seal lip area before installing the balancer? How does the surface of the balancer shaft look? Does it have a groove?

If yes and no then I would suspect the timing cover is misaligned slightly.

Damage to the sealing surface on the damper is suspect as well, may have been damaged by the first seal.

Mis-alignment also comes to mind. Do you have the dowel locating the cover to the block? It is found on newer engines, older didn't have it. One of the tricks is to install the balancer before tightening the cover to the block. It allows the seal to center itself on the damper. If you just install the cover and bolt it down before installing the damper there is a lot of slop in the bolt holes and the cover can be installed out of center to the damper.

Thanks guys, we had figured out and will pre install the balancer as Broncobowsher suggested. Do you know if a oil slinger is applicable in this situation?
