Need opinion on the gear pattern please.
Once gear pattern is considered "good" I need help finishing assembly.
How to set final carrier preload without a torque wrench for ring adjusters?
1 hole farther, 2? Try for a certain total preload on the pinion when everything is assembled?
New yukon gears 4.56
New truetrac differential.
Pinion preload 15" lbs, 20"lbs completely assembled with seal etc.
Runout on ring gear .002"
Backlash .011 with light carrier preload.
Went 1 hole further with ring adjuster.
Pinion preload with carier installed is now 23-24 "lbs.
Thanks for the help. This is my first attempt at working on the rear end gears. David

Pattern looks ok I might try to get it a little deeper into the gear but it should work. Ive never used a torque wrench on side adjuster to set preload as it should be pretty much set once your backlash is achieved. Id probably shoot for around .009 or .010 on the backlash figure a new setup will wear in a little. so being a little tighter should keep you in spec.
Pinion preload is really only set with the pinion itself installed not when everything is fully assembled. As backlash and preloads will change the amount of torque it takes to turn the pinion. So I wouldn't worry about the preload after assembly.

I agree, try to get it deeper into the gear. These marks were good enough for my Tranny guy with 40 yrs experience. Good luck
