I need to remove the rod that goes from the column to the transmission. So i can extend it. ( I have a 2" bl) First, is there anyway to remove the rod without destroying the grommet at the top? Second, is there anyway to extend the rod without removing it? Ive tried to find some pics but have been unsuccessful. Any

I use a small kitchen butane torch (very briefly) just enough to make it pliable.
Trick for new grommet install is to put it in hot water (water from a keurig is prenty hot enough to soften it up)

Expect to destroy it. You can get a new one at Oreily. MTM Part # 14041.
