I just got done with my np435 swap and now that when the engine is idling with my foot on the clutch and let it out slowly the truck dies. Do i need to adjust the linkage or what. Is it possible that the top of the tranny (removed for easier install) is not lined up on the shift forks. I need your help people. Let me know. I have started it in gear but when I start to let off it still dies. I do not want to gun it because if it is stuck in gear I do not want it to go through the garage. HELP.

I took the top off again and readjusted it. It will run in neutral know but it still tries to die when i put it in gear and start letting off the clutch.

Does it roll under its own power or does it dye and not move? Is the emergency brake on? Did you put too long of bolt thru the adapter and into the trans locking up the large gear in the back?

It is dying and not moving, the only thing I can think of it is stuck in 2 gears. I really hope not because I really don't want to have to drop everything again to fix it. e- brake is not functional.

Bobby, Are you sure you have the reverse fork on the reverse gear? It is the longest fork that goes deep into the left side of the trans. Its a gear all by its self that slides front and back on a rail. When you get the top back on,look down the shifter hole and make sure the 3 are all lined up from left to right where the round part of the shifter goes into them. That should make everything work. Good luck! Randy

I've not done that to my np435 but I have a case tractor that will get in 2 gears at once when you have the top off the trans ...That is how it feels and act when it's hung up ..I'll bet whoever it was that said to look at reverese is on track ...

It will not roll. Does that mean it is stuck in a gear and reverse? Riss, what did you mean by the shifter hole? do you mean to take the shift lever out and look down that or something else.

Yeh, if you take off the shifter you can use a mirror and flashlight to look down the tower hole into the transmission. You will see three rods with slots in them. You want all three slots to match up left to right. Like this --- . If it is stuck in two gears(which mine was when I put the tranny in) it will have two slots lined up with the third either in front of or behind the others. Does that make sense to you?...I don't have any pictures, so I improvised with the dashes. When looking into the hole with the mirror you can use a screw driver or small pry bar to move the rods around. Chances are two are lined up fine and the third just needs to be moved one "notch" until it lines up as well. Just remember that you are looking into a mirror and front is really back and back is really front, it took me a whiles to remember this. Let us know how it goes or if you are still unsure of anything.
