Will a modern head unit fit in the dash or will it hit the defroster / heater assembly? I am just starting my interior tune up and want to plan this radio install as I go so I don't go backward. I have a single DIN unit with a DIN equalizer. I plan to use the high powered outputs on the back of the unit so it will need some room back there.

Part II - my rig came with a new dash pad in the back with a lot of other parts. It does not have any instructions. It looks like you simply take off the windshield knobs, slip it on and put the knobs back on. Any other screws or bolts or issues? Looks too easy.

I'm not sure about the radio question, but I THINK the dash pad has some screws in it behind the windshield. I tried to pull mine off with the hard top on and something back there was holding it in place so I think you have to fold the windshield forward to attach it.

Hmmm - I would hate to fold the windshield and chip the hinge paint (more) since I just painted it this spring.

The bigger issue is the wiring harness. You may have to adjust it for things to fit correctly. We hooked up a 1000w amp mounted to a set of 12" Kickers in a box behind the rear seat. Rockford Fosgate mids/tweets in the doors. She can be heard halfway down the street ;D

Just skip them screws behind the dash! I used stainless screws on the front with some fancy button washers or whatever there called.

Standard DIN radio should fit. Im gona check this weekend to see if i can get a full size CB in there instead of a radio. The CB has the same din size but is longer so im not sure it will clear the heator??
