I need help - Rocker trim mounting

I'm installing rocker trim on my bronco and since it didn't come with them from the factory, I need to drill the holes in my new paint. Needless to say, I want to measure thrice and drill once. I'd like them to line up perfectly to factory specs (which really doesn't mean anything since no two broncos are alike) so if anyone can send me detailed pics of their rocker trim holes with measurements and measurements of the rockers on (I.e. x inches below edge of door jamb, etc...) it would be a huge help.

Also, what have you guys used to mount them? Any pics of mounting hardware?

I've only had a couple EB's with rocker trim. They use clips like on the belt line trim. You have those clips? Not sure how you'd do it otherwise. I don't have any measurements though. Hope you get what you need.

Just a thought, because I haven't looked into it, but since you don't have
the holes and the factory hardware is unobtainable, is there any good flat
surface that you can put 3M Emblem Tape on? It is the double sided foam
tape that sticks like a mutha, but is still removeable if needed. I was thinking
about buying a set of rocker trim and trying that on my '72...

I think that's how zillacon had his mounted. I'll send him a PM and see if he can post up here.

I have thought about doing that, but I'd hate my rocker trim to go flying off at 80 mph...

I don't have the clips. They are virtually nonexistent and impossible to remove without damaging.

66, I have a 76 Ranger that came out of LongBeach. It had the trim on it, but I sold it and the clips. There are 5 plastic clips evenly spaced across the rocker panel. If you hook a tape on the top edge of the rocker and measure down. It is 1-13/16 inches to the center of the hole. the plastic clips were attached with about a #8 sheet metal screw. There is a metal clip on the fender about 3-3/8 ahead of the rear edge of fender and one on the rear quarter panel about 5-1/2 back from where the quarter and rocker panels meet. The plastic clips could be duplicated with aluminum, like road sign thickness. ( i am not suggesting you steal a road sign) I think metal clips you could come up with. I will send more info later tonight. gotta go somewhere now.

OK I'm Back,
The plastic clips were 3/4 wide by just long enough to grab the edges of the trim. The edges were tapered a bit to help the trim pop over the edge of the clip. bend to fit the contour of the rocker, witch is fairly flat right there, dont make the upper and lower edge too tight against the rocker, or it will be hard to put the trim on. Drill hole in center. Metal clips are a common style of the era. kind of an S shape with a metal spring that prevents it from rotating out. has a 1/4" stud on the back side that sticks through the front fender or quarter panel with nut on the back. Probably still available from Auveeco, but check with a local body shop thats been around awhile. One here had buckets full of clips in all shapes and sizes.

Suckerpunched, thanks! Very detailed for sure. I figure I'll have to fabricate some sort of mounting hardware/clips. This helps a lot.

I'd still like some pics if anyone has a tub without the rocker trim mounted with a measuring tape showing exact hole placement... A pic is worth a 1000 words.

OK Heres 3000 words worth.
The center hole on the rocker is hard to see, that clip was missing. also from side to side the spacing is different and the holes are drilled 1/16 lower in relation to the top of the rocker panel. so it measures 1-7/8

If you look at the picture above that shows the whole door, there is a trim clip where the upper body trim was located. That is the style of clip that was used on both ends of the rocker trim, but the rocker trim clip is bigger.

The number on the original Ford rocker molding clips (the plastic ones) is C6T3-961012 near as I can tell. If you're lucky enough to find new ones, great - I wasn't.I found my old clips in a bag, with a couple of the new ones that I used to install my rocker trim. There was a number on the bag, NP876330. These wern't perfect, but are holding the molding quit well.I think they were for a Lincoln, but I can't remember where I bought them. Hope this helps.

All and any info helps! Thanks! Is anybody willing to post up pics of mounted rocker trim with a measuring tape across the length (wheel well to wheel well) and height (top of rocker to bottom of rocker)? I don't want to drill more than once...

Thanks!

honestly I think you should hold the trim up to your truck and see where it looks and fits the best. mark it out with tape and drill the holes.
