Any pictures of the weld on the 2 pieces butt welded before the bend. I have found it is more important to figure out some tricks to welding old, rusty Bronco steel than 2 new never rusted fresh 1/4" pieces. Look like perfect welds fom what i can see.

The only thing I have found that works well is too clean idlt and use the proper wire ER70S-6

Old rusty metal. I flap wheel it then hit it with torch to burn out the oil and other fluids.

Looks great to me. I had a hell of a time trying to TIG weld my suspension stuff to my frame so I called in a friend to stick weld it. TIG welding on that old steel left me too many pin holes and was too slow. The stick welding worked perfect because the contaminates flow to the surface and cool in the slag, where as in TIG welding the contaminates end up in the top layer of the weld resulting in ugly pin holes. Luckly my TIG welder has the option of plugging in a stinger and using the same machine for stick welding. I learned a lot the day my friend came over. It took him 10 hours of straight welding to get all my suspension stuff welded on my bare frame, but it looks perfect....of course it should as he welds pipe at a local oil refinery!;)

But ya your welds look perfect to me! What kind of welding are you showing here? Stick, mig, tig? The spatter, and nice looking welds leads me to believe it def ant TIG.

These are mig welds. The top was a mild bevel the second was more aggressive. The second had too low of speed for that bevel. Both single passes on one side only. Lincoln sp175 argon co2 er70s-3

Im not a pro. I wanted to bend them as they do for a butt joint welding cert. I wanted to make sure my welds hold being bent 180*. Im not sure if it's good or bad but there is no cracking.

I'll bet you did! I gotta say that's the first time I ever heard of anyone even trying that....

About the only thing I TIG weld on an EB is the exhaust (I use all stainless) and most anything I fab out of aluminum.

Well its the only welder we have. Aside from the frame stuff I tig weld everything from exhaust, to axle stuff, rool cages, bumpers, replacement panel on my tailgate, to steering components. hell I even tig welded my entire new front inner clip together. Sure its slow as heck but its all we got. If I knew how to stick weld id use our tig welder to do more of that heavy duty stuff. Im in the market for a plasma cutter and tubing bender before a mig welder.

I even tig welded my entire crank down fish house frame together!%) Talk about a long slow process!

Im just glad we got a welder! And the fact that I can weld virtually anything with it is a bonus. We do a fair share of SS and aluminum as well.

I don't know, but I've seen a lot of people who opt for installing a role cage instead because it makes your rig so much safer. :p

hey protecting your pastries is very important when you among a group of bronco brothers! My next project is a heated roll cage. Nothing beats warm dognuts!
