Last week I ordered Wild Horses stainless M1A1 gas tank. It was pricy, but I was hoping it would be a quality item. It arrived on Monday and when I opened the boxes I was very pleased with what I was looking at. The install went well. I had built a trailer hitch that was in the way so I had to deal with that. After I got around the hitch problems all went well. I had bought the skid plate for it. Very pleased with that as well. It was good to get the frame mounted pump gone. I was tired of hearing it. Now all is quiet. Sender works good, fit is good, pump install is easy. The tank pulls up tight to the bottom of the bed, reguardless of the body lift. I have a 2'' body lift and it was nice to get that tank all the up. Also if I wanted to move my rear dif. back an inch, there is lots of room to do that. More space to get an exhaust pipe past it too. It's all good, pretty much a bolt up. I think thats a win. Good Job W.H's

Its weird to read a review and it not end in some dramatic bullshit where the reviewer complains they had to drill 2 holes and the install was SO bad.

I was actually reading your review waiting for the complaint, LOL. But then I realized someone with some mechanical skills and not a wussy wrote it.

Does your gas gauge work well with it?

Yes Todd, it seems to work correctly. When the tank was empty I started with 5 gal of gas. Sender read 1/4 tank. I went down to the gas station and put 11 gal of gas in it. Tank read 3/4. I drove it around town for about 2 hours. Dropped down to just above half. Thats all I got so far. But that would be close enough for me. Knowing at 1/4 tank I got 5 gallons. I can work with that. Before I put any gas in it, it even said it was empty.

Also just ordered SS tank! Was stoked when I opened box and saw the tig quality! Planned on going with the TBP tank but then realized it was made of galvanized sheet then painted. Went SS over galvanic due to I intend to 4BT swap this beast in 3-4 years and don’t want the diesel to turn the galvanize into a tank booger! Also wanted the new style float/sender unit!

Thanks bax - sounds real good to me. Now I’ve gotta keep collecting my cans and I’ll save up enough to get one.

That looks like a nice installation. Is the skid plate steel or stainless? Am I correct to say that the skid plate holds up the tank. It's hard to tell with the photo if the tank strap is still used with the skid plate.

Steel or stainless? I thought it was stainless but I am seeing surface rust on it? So I will go try and put a magnet on it as see. If it is steel I will need to drop the shield down and paint it. Yes the skid plate mounts much like the strap. It holds up the tank. No strap mount is used when the skid plate is used.

Well looks like the shield is mild steel. So it looks like I need to drop the shield and paint it. Sure glad I got 70 pounds of fuel in it. My fault for not checking first. I think I can make some wood wedges and pound them into the corners to hold the tank in place while I lower the skid plate. Nothing holds the tank up without the skid plate. I think Black will work good.

Sorry to hear about the extra work. Use the old fuel pump to empty it out into gas cans/other vehicles. Be careful with the electric connectios to avoid sparking. Also Rustoleum hammer tone silver or black covers well and dries quick. Another question >> Does the skid plate have any other attachment point(s) other than the J bolts? Thanks for sharing the info and good luck to you.

No big deal on the extra work. I drove some wood wedges into the corners in between the tank and the frame. They held it up no problem. Took it down and put an etching primer on it. Then a sealer coat. Waiting on that to dry and I will top coat it. no big deal.

As much as they cost shouldn't it be stainless?
It is not really that expensive a material these days.

I wish it had been stainless. I would still be done. I'm waiting for paint to dry right now.
