i have 1996 5.0 eddie bauer with a SLL4 ECU code that EFI guy programmed for me along with my harness re work. I found a 1996 5.0 XLT at the pick n pull today and i thought id grab ECU to have as a spare. problem is the one i grabbed today has a SLL3 ECU code on it. anyone here know what the differences are and will it work in place of my SLL4 if needed later on down the road?

thanks

anyone know what the differences are in the ECU codes?

I asked Garry basically the same (SLL2 vs SLL4). He told me yes but would need it’s own program not the same as the SLL4 he programmed for me

This was several years ago so maybe not 100% accurate

Simple answer is... Yes. An SLL3 will work after Garry programs it.

Every time I go to the Wreaking yard I grab one or two ECU's for spares. Some of these rigs are 20+ years old and some day... they will go up in cost and be impossible to find like the 87-93 Mustang ECU's.

I am a strong believer in having a spare unit preprogramed and ready for use. I have had only one fail and it was a odd fail. Put the replacement in and went about my travels. Sent the failed one to Garry and he could not figure out why it failed? He kept it so one day, in all his free time, he could look into it a little deeper. And well that was like 4 years ago. ;)

Always a good idea to carry a spare PCM as a Ford technician I replace quite a few that just go bad with no known reason.

I always have Garry do two at a time when I send them to him. 👍🏻

what other ECU codes can we use in our explorer swaps and from what other vehicles can we poach them from?

i agree with Doug, these will be getting harder and harder to find so while im out pickin id like to grab another one so i can send two down to Garry for programming. make the shipping from Canada worth while...
