Looking at picking up a early 70's Bronco and wanting to verify the year. Here's the VIN and if someone can chime in and decode the VIN, it would be greatly appreciated.

77' built in December 76'. That first 0 should be a G
Thanks. It is not a G according to the title. Maybe your right and it should be a G and not a 0 or O which is why I'm asking. Also its showing as a 1973 per the paper.

It's a "G"

You have a printout on a piece of paper using data that was entered into a computer by a human being.

It is a mistake, and it happens a lot. CA DMV actually has a process for correcting a VIN when there is a one digit mistake.

The second "0" could be correct, and its a 77, or it could be a "Q" and it's a 73.

Look at the gas tank cap. If there is a fuel door, then it's a 77. If there's no door, then it's not a 77.

Go to your frame, take a picture of the acutal VIN, and convince yourself that it is a "G."
Then go to your glovebox, and take a picture of the warranty plate. Verify that it coincides with the frame VIN. If it does...great. If it does not, then order a replacement from Marti.

Then go to your DMV with a verification of VIN and have the paperwork corrected.

That way, when I buy your Bronco and import it into the Republic of California, I don't have to bother you endlessly about the error. and CA DMV won't remand me to CHP and it won't take 14 months (yes, really) to get the title transferred.

Q, R, S were the 73' letters so most likely a Q rather than the 0 or O.

T or G were the only engine codes available for a 73' so first 0 still needing to be a G

Thanks for the information. Going to pass on buying it as the frame is thrashed beyond repair.

Glad you looked deeper into it then! Those things might be easily visible when you're actually looking for it, but often go unnoticed in the heat and excitement of the first look.
A trashed frame is fixable too of course, but it's a big pain. Both with sourcing, paying, and verifying VIN with the local DMV!

Good luck on the hunt.
Oh, and welcome to classicbroncos too!

Yep not much real info in the VIN other than the basics. Not like a modern vehicle, or even some other brands of older vehicles.
The U15 means it’s a Wagon model with the full hard top. The G is the engine code for the 302.

If you haven’t heard of them before, you can get a Marti report which is going to give you the information that would’ve been on the window sticker. In fact you can get a reproduction window sticker too. But you still need to give them the info off the warranty plate on the glove box door if you want a replacement of those.

Super Duper deluxe report is fairly spendy, but a basic emailed copy is still pretty inexpensive.
