I think that if you're working on an EFI system more than just routine maintenance, to keep it running as opposed to various "upgrades", that you're doing something wrong. The whole point of these systems is that they don't need the near constant little fiddling that carbs require.

I agree. Once it is set up years will go by and never touch it. I have had EFI (Ford parts MegaSquirt control and wiring harness) for about 7 years and the only time I touched it was when I switched from C4 to 4R70W the idle was hunting.

OP has either bad hardware, bad wiring or a really wacky tune.

Yep that’s why I went there..fitech..sniper..I know nothing but..it seems like to compete for low end consumer dollars (as in who can make it for less) the quality control is nonexistent..powdercoat residue in internal pressure regulator, tps sensor doa..who knows

Agreed, theoretically, decades of maintenance free operation. If they made it correctly.

My Quadratec is on year 7 of zero maintenance 100% reliability. Previous carb required weekly fiddling.

I still want to go to fuel injection, pro flow is my first choice, but nobody has yet shown they can make the parts right.

What he^^^^^^^ said! I'm wanting sniper for ease of package but don't want the issues, next up would be Holley Hp but then you have cost, middle would be (IMO) pro flow still issues from what I've read.

I went from Fitech to the Holley Sniper. The Fitech ran great, until it didn't. Couldn't find anyone to work on it so I went with the Holley Sniper. Lots of electrical interference was solved by aluminum foil and duck tape in front of the unit. Runs fine but pretty sad that this is an out-of-the-box issue that they don't acknowledge on the Ford / 302s anyway.

People give me crap about my MegaSquirt solution but I picked up every part used except the ECM in a junk yard for almost nothing. They are 25+ years old now still work like a champ. If something goes I can get it at any auto parts store by referring to 2000 Explorer 5.0. Even better is a full Ford EFI with diagnostics.

I had this issue with the Fitech until I swapped the distributor cap from a Holley to a MSD cap. Has run great for three years now. the Holley cap would not contain the RFI/EMI.

A guy in the PNW ran one of these on his EB or turbo Ranger, or maybe it was the long travel Sidekick, I can't remember. He had nothing but good to say about it.

Received an email from Holley this morning with the release of the sniper 2. Looks like they have moved the ecu to the passenger side of the throttle body which should alleviate interference from the front mounted distributor. Should be more like the MSD atomic. Time will tell though.

I watched the short video on it. Looks like a nice improvement and sounds like they addressed the common complaints. Can also control your auto transmission now too.

maybe I am lucky but in 3 trucks Ive not had any issues with the sniper system? 2bbl setups with stock(ish) motors. Great grounds and power wires.

Purchased my 73 with 302 from a guy who already had Sniper installed. Ran absolutely horrible, the guy tells me "It's just cold blooded". Played into if I was going to purchase the rig or not. After pulling the trigger on it, it has been great these last few months studying and learning how to tune the Sniper to specific setup. What I would call a science!

Now it runs great and I've been enjoying the time it has taken to tune and comparing the learned mapping charts with previous adjustments to get the most out of the system. Definitely not what I would define as a "plug n play" system though.

Looks like some good upgrades with the Sniper 2

If you have a "1", I would sure as heck call and demand a very good deal on version 2.0, or I dont recommend 2.0
