Finally attaching my new oil pan (for early Bronco's) to my new 351w engine but the oil pan hits the oil pump so that the pan wont seat properly. am guessing you guys are running a lower profile pump. Ideas?

Pictures? The front studs on my windage tray hit the pan but it appeared like it was the pick up.

Not the pickup. It is the oil pump itself. actually hitting the oil plug itself. Have cross checked that it is the correct pan.

I can include pics but not really much to see other than the front of the engine is elevated about 1/2" as it hits the plug/pan.

Did you put some clay balls on the pickup to confirm where it is hitting? I have even used a slice of bread and balled it up for this purpose. Also a pick of the pan, pickup and pump may tell us what is not correct.

High volume pumps are deeper than regular pumps, if you went that route. I had to dimple the pan for the pump bolt heads on my 351C HV oil pump.

Q&D......those were my thoughts. I may have to "pursuade" the pan but I would rather know more before I do that. BTW per ATK, it has a high volume Melling oil pump.

I ground down the corners of my Melling HV pump and then ground down the drain plug until it fit. That was on my old 351W. The pump had recessed screws on the cover.

Yeah......but alot to grind down. Probably easier to find a high quality stock pump instead.

It literally took me like 20 minutes. It really doesn’t take that much to make it clear. I went to a standard volume pump on my 408W though and it works fine.

A decent stock pump should fit. I had the shop assemble my last 351w and sure enough it came witha melting hv pump installed. I was able to grind the corner of the pump enough to get the pan seated. Not sure if the milodon pan has the same issue but you're talking another $500 for the pan and pick up

Thanks to all you guys for the input. Definitely a difference in HV vs stock. Confirmed it was a Melling M-83HV vs M-83. I just ordered a M-83 since I would need to take the HV off anyway to grind it.

Once again, thanks for all the input.

The drain plug is hitting the pump? Can you use a shorter drain plug w/o the nub on the end?
