    D44 deciphering BOM

I can make a guess based on what I know of another D44. This is one I removed from a '77 parts rig, 3 22 7 A5 603780-3. It looks to me like the date here is 3 22 7, or March 22, 1977. I don't know what the A5 means, maybe a shift code or something. If this is correct then I expect 603218-4 2 8...

    explorer 5.0 /c4 torque converter 76 bronco ??

The problem with the original flexplate (164 tooth, 10.5" bolt pattern) is there are no converters available for it. They are not the same as the converters used on the smaller 157 tooth flexplates, which are very common. Although they share the same 10.5" bolt pattern, the length of the pilot...

    Explorer PS pump

It has to gravity feed. No way to get air out of the system if the tank is below the pump.

Tail Lights, Turn Signals, Brake Lights - Don't work when headlights are on....

Bad grounds at the rear light buckets.

    Twin stick

It looks like the front output shaft was changed to the J style somewhere between serial 160xxxx and 165xxxx (1972 timeframe). The rails didn't change until between serial 173xxxx and 174xxxx (1973).

    What's the serial number?

    Twin stick

The last T shift cases didn't have the snap ring as they had a J style front output shaft. I suspect yours is a 1973? Front bearings are different too. I have a spreadsheet here somewhere that shows the approximate serial number range.

    4WD, no 2WD

D20 input gear was put on backwards. The dogs to engage the rear output shaft are only on one side of the gear.

    C4 leak

That bolt hole should be dry. I think you have something else happening there, like a crack in the case.

    Stock C4 transmission

I would recommend taking it apart and inspecting it before buying any parts. If you're lucky you might only need gaskets and a pump. Look here for parts: Whatever it takes https://www.wittrans.com/

    Stock C4 transmission

C4 hard parts have been difficult to find since covid hit. Before then, you could easily find a rebuilt pump for about $75. Now you'll be lucky if you can find one for under $300. I have seen some all new aftermarket pumps in recent years, but they are very pricey. You can probably get new gears...

D20 Popping out of 4 wheel drive

And this will wear out the fork and sliding gear over long term use, creating a bigger problem. The bungee would be a trail fix, not a solution.

    Transmission Leak

No bearings or seals to worry about. Gear position doesn't matter. There is a spring that might pop out of position on the park pawl. Makes sure the end of it doesn't get pinched between the C4 gasket surface and adapter when it goes back together. You'll probably loose a little fluid when you...
