I have a 77 sport special decor in midnight blue metallic. It’s going in for paint and body work. Was the grille originally black with the red/chrome letters or silver? I see sports were silver and decors were black. It’s currently black but it has been repainted.

Yes, the both the base and sport model 76 -77 Special Decors had black grills with the chrome w/red insert letters.

(All other traditional sport models did have argent silver grills).

SeaVee, that looks like a Special Decor. A Ranger would have an Argent silver grill.

Marti report says Ranger and it has Ranger name plate on dash. Bought it from original owner in 92

Rangers normally came from Ford with an Argent grill. I have never, in 41 years of owning Rangers, seen or heard of a Ranger with an original black grill.
Post the Marti report if you can. I don’t see any Ranger stripes so it may have been repainted or is a stripe delete Ranger which should show on the Marti. A black grill on a Ranger is not normal…

To the best of my knowledge and owning a 76 Special Decor. the Black grill was exclusive to the Special Decor package. I have owned three Ranger package Broncos, 75 and two 77's. All had Argent gray grills.
Fastwest - Radiator Core Support black too, or it looks just wrong (like mine does).

If SeaVee's Bronco was a Special Décor, it would have black headlight rings, wouldn't it? Easy swap, I know.
Then there was this: https://barnfinds.com/rare-color-1976-ford-bronco-ranger/
They talk about how rare an all white 76 Ranger is. I wound how rare my all white 77 Ranger would have been. It had a tan interior and stripe delete.

Mine has the exact same blue interior and dash pad as the 76 in that link. Original paint when I bought it in ‘92 from original owner. Only had 103k on it when I bought it. I think it came that way from factory. If you look at the Marti report it states 1 of 29 with that paint/trim code. Here’s the original interior:

It’s a stripe delete Ranger for sure. I would bet that the grill was painted black at some point. Looks like the parking light pads have been painted black as well. Some forensics would probably answer the question. The question now is what color are you going to paint the grill?

Hey seavee that is a very nice bronco cool color one thing I see and it is hard to tell but there dose not seem to be any chrome side marker trim.I see the trim on the vent windows but I can't really tell if it has chrome trim around the window frames it maybe there but if it is it is blinding in with the white color .At any rate it is hard to beat a white 77 bronco best of the best.

Base model Special Decors have black headlight rings. Sport model Special Decors have chrome.
Both base and sport SDs do have bright trim around the windows. Core supports on SDs are black.

This Bronco also shows parchment interior but has midnight blue armrests. Anyone have a source?

If you are looking for blue armrests good luck. My original ones were kinda rough. Seems like you can only get replacement armrests in parchment. I had a paint shop mix a match to my old ones . Bought new parchment ones from DC, going to paint them soon
