As I think others have noted part of the problem with injecting a 351W is simply finding an intake. Manufacturers seem to be losing interest in making compatible manifolds. I got my hands on a Trick Flow R combo before TFS stopped making them. The Lightning lower is insanely expensive when you can find one. Edelbrock used to make an upper/lower combo that outflowed the Trick Flow setup I have, but they stopped making those years ago. Edelbrock does still occasionally produce their Super Victor EFI manifold, which was my backup plan (and maybe I should've gone with it anyway): https://www.edelbrock.com/super-victor-efi-351w-intake-manifold-29245.html Out of stock at the moment but they do seem to be producing it still. With one of their 90 degree elbows and a throttle body of your choice, you are in business though I imagine hood clearance is still an issue. And you'll still need fuel rails, blah blah. Any EFI system that is designed for port injection will work.

Had to put this off for a while. (Hate it when work gets in the way of Bronco'ing). But here's an update:

Ordered the Pro-Flow 4 this morning. Spent a half hour on the phone with Edelbrock Tech Support yesterday and have decided to go this route.
I was really considering trying to piece together an Explorer setup, but decided I didn't have the spare hours to do that.

Here were the things that made the decision for me:
1. I figured I would eventually upgrade to controlled timing anyway, and the Pro-Flow included the distributor, etc.
2. While I currently have a good intake, I don't truly know how compatible it is with injection. I know the ProFlow system will all be engineered to work together.
3. Admittedly, I am just too spooked about the Sniper 1 failure to try the Sniper 2.
4. After reading the ProFlow install manual, most of my wiring is in place from the Sniper...I don't think re-wiring is going to be that much of a chore.
5. My current intake only had one coolant port and it was used up by the Sniper sensor. I had to disconnect my dash gauge and rely on the Sniper display for coolant temp. That was very hard to read in the sun. The Edelbrock will give me enough ports to reconnect the Bronco coolant gauge. I can also get rid of the display stuck on the dash.
6. The ECU is not in the throttle body.
7. The Edelbrock manual recommends a 180F thermostat. I originally had a 180 when carbureted, but had to put a 195 in to keep the Sniper in "learn" mode. Since then I've had heat issues when crawling. I'm hoping the 180F thermostat will help with that (although I know I still have some fan shroud issues that need correcting)
8. I'm assuming the direct injection has to be somewhat better that throttle body.

I hope to start swapping this over in a couple weeks. I'll keep y'all posted...and thanks everyone for their input.

Love my Pro Flo 4!

Makes total sense why it’s “better” for small block Fords with the Dizzy up front near the Holly ECU (contained in the TB unit).

I'll be waiting intently for the outcome of this. Take pics of the install if you can give us a heads up on any issues. My next big purchase is gear and lockers followed closely by an EFI set up. The Pro-Flow 4 has been at the top of my list as well for several of the same things you've listed above. I had planned on upgrading from the stock intake and adding electronic ignition/distributor so having that built into the upfront cost of the Pro-Flow is nice.

Good luck.
