RE: Warn Winch Remote Recall

Hello all, I got my Warn Winch VR Evo 10S remote out of my glove box today to reel out some winch cable. The remote wouldn't work, it is a wireless and wired dual-operation unit. I changed the batteries and still nothing, hooked up the cable and it worked OK. Checked the internet for other owners with the same problem and it turns out there is a rather large recall from Warn on this remote issue. It affects quite a time period and various model numbers, so I thought I would share it here as I hadn't heard anything about this recall before. The fix is to self-repair this remote to a wired only by removing the battery pack (cutting the wires), then show Warn proof of this action by photo and fill out their claim form and then Warn will send a certificate for $100 so you can buy, if you want, another new waterproof dual function remote part #109470.

The recall was active when I bought mine but not advertised. In Canada, they didn't honour the wireless remote for some reason. Instead of the $100, they sent me a second wired remote and a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the winch and connects to my phone.
I was a little skeptical and disappointed at first, but having used it for a while, I love the Bluetooth connection to my phone. Works very well.

Interesting, my original recall notice says they were developing a new waterproof wireless remote and would make that available to me at no charge when ready? Does that mean free? plus the $100 we'll see. Wonder if the part number 109470 wireless remote that the Customer Service Agent mentioned to me is waterproof, if not it looks the same as my current one?

all I got was a wired remote, it took 3 weeks. Not a big deal except, winch froze up, with half the cable out, so making the jeep sort of not usable

so, April to now, I try the winch. DEAD

Warn, my winch is DEAD, AGAIN. 3rd time in 12 months.

I now have a badlands 12k on my new jeep, less cost, with remote THAT WORKS.

I am calling to send it in for repair then sell it.

NO MORE WARN FOR ME, particularly since the HF knock off comes out the same factory.

Most messed up Recall I have ever seen . They sent me a wired remote, even though I did the fix to my original one, strange , so now I have 2 wired remotes.. I did get a $100 rebate from them also, but I expected the wireless remote to be sent which I really wanted, but no such luck. Still waiting also.

Been hearing about wireless remote issues for 30+ years now.
Guess they figured they had it figured out after all these years.
Apparently not...

Talked with warn today, not good. Supposedly on my dime I have to take winch to one of their contract repair shops in PHX area, and they will let me know what I will owe, because they only have a parts warranty to 7 yrs, labor is 90 days. I now have an official boat anchor for the yard warn, well done.

My Wireless remote was part number 109470 And $100 coupon gift card covered it. No shipping charge , shipping it to Desert rat 4x4 and I could pick it up.
