Step or no step?

I saw some AMP steps in person this past weekend at a Car Show in Wichita on a 76 Bronco......they looked great. Those are steps from alibaba. I have the same ones on my tundra.

At this point I have a new aux tank all connected, an electronic transfer switch activated on dash for each tank (tied into the fuel gauge reading, powder coatede aux tank skid plate, and of course the filler neck and cap. Do not see a way that makes sense to change all that. Only thing that makes any sense would be to develop an electric step that can work with the aux tank. If not, I'll just live with it. I like the look much better without the steps.

I remember seeing someone build an aux tank to work with the amp steps. You lose capacity but you’d keep the tank. My old boss had a similar set of steps on his 3rd gen. He made the steps easily removable. That way he could have them on when he was using the truck around town and take them off easily as soon as his tires hit dirt. Personally I’m a fan of the no step look as it’s so much cleaner. That’s where the retractable steps shine.

For the life of me I can’t remember where I saw it. Could’ve been here could’ve been on social media. What you would have to do is decide the steps are more important than the tank. Then install the steps and see what kind of room is left. Then a decent fabricator should be able to build a cardboard mockup then transfer that to either aluminum or stainless and build a tank.

Yup, like I mentioned- a custom tank. They are easy to make.

Gotta decide if the number of times you need 11 gal or 8 gal or whatever gal capacity your year aux tank is actually NEEDED, not used compared to the # of times you need or would like the ease of a retractable step not just for now but for 10 yrs down the road. Not my call tho.

Might be a pain, but if your wife needs the steps, just put them on when you know she is going to be in it. When you take them back off, just put the bolts back in to keep mud and dirt out of the bolt holes. Short term solution.

You could also keep a small folding step inside the bronco and use it when needed.

I carry a folding step for my wife in my trail rig. I have RC e-Boards on my Gen6.

I would think it would be pretty easy to modify one of the metal side tanks that are available, hell I imagine there are more than a few used ones around for sale. Start cutting it down until it fits with the steps then have a welding shop put the bottom back on. I am probably making it sound easier than it is, but I don't think it would be that hard either.
