Step or no step?

I agree on the removal of the little stationary step. Have you looked into the Rock Slide Engineering Step sliders? I'm not sure that they will clear an aux tank but what I've seen, they look like they would. And the other benefit of them is that they protect the sides from the door dings in the parking lots.

I am going to be the odd ball here. I am not a big fan of the small steps or hidden steps, but I do like a full length nerf bar or rock rail. You still get the offroad look with functional steps that don't depend or wiring to work. As far as offroading goes, the hidden steps have issues with getting bent or debris getting into the wiring and pivots.

When it comes to removing and replacing the small steps, it they work, put them back on. I let my wallet, my needs, and desires make my declensions. Happy wife means a happy like. If she is happy, don't screw with it. If you are looking to spend a lot of time and money fixing a problem that is already solved, put on hidden steps. That being said, if the wife likes the hidden look and wants hidden steps, jump on it and get it done. At the end of the day, nobody here is going to pony up money to pay for youir steps, but your wife is.

There are lots of options and I have even seen a saddle stirrup used. To each his own.

After removing the small steps (looks much better) did some experimenting with wife getting in and out just using the handles I installed. After figuring out a good method, she can hop in and out great. Even have one on drivers side and helps me as well. So for now, looks like these handles have solved my problem...until we turn 70 in a few years .

@76YETI I would like to try and do something like that uses the motor for the retractable step setup. Would be great if it could work with the aux tank.

I welded a 2" receiver on to the back of my rock-sliders and built a step that is removable with the pin.
