Windshield Chrome Trim

I'm replacing the trim around the windshield. Have old off, but wondering and hoping someone has a secret of re-installing the new chrome. I have cleaned the track out in the gasket, but almost seems impossible to fit it in without damage. Those chrome pieces are so thin but yet so expensive.

Thanks for any tricks or tips.

I use silicone spray in the track, and then slide the trim in and then wrap my hand in a microfiber to push the trim into the groove. Install the trim before you install the glass into the frame, it will be incredibly difficult to get the trim in after the gasket is pulled into the window frame

You should use the search function. I remember someone struggling with this and getting lots of advice. I remember because I thought “how hard can it be?” but apparently it is a pain in the rear. I left my trim off.

I don't think you can get it in while the glass is in the truck. You'll bend your new trim. I just did this and outlined below. The glass and gasket has to be out. Install the glass into the gasket first, the use something very slippery (some people use silicone spray, I used dish detergent) in the trim channel. Start at one corner and insert the trim, then slide the trim all the way down to the other side. If you've lubed it well, it will go in very easily.

Thanks for all replies, the problem is I was just replacing the trim, I never took the windshield out. Sounds like I might be up the creek with no paddle...
I looked briefly on the search but seemed it was all pertaining to the glass being out. Shoot I don't know what to do?

You may have to bite the bullet and pull your winshield out. There are videos out there that show how to do this, and reinstall. I have always heard that the trim should be installed in the rubber gasket prior to installing the windshield. That is "my paddle" for you to continue down this creek. Get a helper to help install the windshield. It will be much easier, I know this to be true! Good luck! 🙏 :geek:

I think you all are correct in taking the glass out, I also think I will order a new windshield gasket while I'm at it as I'm sure mine is original.
I'll look for those videos, and see what happens.
Thanks to all.

I forced a piece in that wasn't seated correctly after the glass was installed. Not only did I destroy that piece, but I also destroyed my hands and my pride. You made the right choice to reinstall the glass lol

You don't note where you are, but if you're around Phoenix, PM me and you can borrow my install rope tool. If not, just use a thin rope or buy the tool. You don't really need the handle (and other vendors sell it), just the rope.

MAKE SURE you get the gasket with the slot for the trim. There's a gasket without the slot for people without trim.

I was shocked how easily it went in.

Sounds good and thank you for the offer but I'm in SC, just a little ways from you lol.
I did see they offer two gaskets, I could see where that could go wrong.
Anyone have a favorite video for doing this and I assume there is some kind of chalking(silicone) adhesive that should be used?

I found the Wild Horse video for installation looks pretty straight forward.
A little concerned about taking the windshield out and not breaking it?

Since you are replacing the gasket, just cut the old one to get the glass out. You can slip a thin knife between the glass and the seal from the front side. Use it to trim off the lip that holds the glass. The glass will lift right out of the seal. You don’t need adhesive with these seals. It just makes a mess…

Good deal thank you, will hopefully be taking care of this today.
