I am looking to replace my current CHINESE 2.5 pound fire extinguisher in my 68. Have had the same one for years. Probably doesn't even work. Currently mounted on my full cage roll bar. I see several post from years ago, so wanted to see if there were any updates and suggestions. I do like it mounted on the roll bar. Is the 2-3 pound ABC the correct one or I did see Heron (SP) as well.

I run Badger, Amerex or Ansul 2-1/2lb units, but that's what we sell at work, so its easy for me to get them. You want a metal top, if the valve or handles are plastic, they are not serviceable and also prone to not working when you need it to.

I have my home and vehicle extinguishers serviced every 3 years, Dry chem and Halon. Company comes to the house to do it.
They are high quality serviceable units, not the cheapies you can buy at your local hardware store.

Dry chem, if mounted upright, has a tendency to clump at the bottom mounted in vehicles going down the road (Fire Trucks). No one wants to try and use one, of an unknown age, in an emergency and only have the propellant come out!

Take it from someone that had to use a dry type on a fresh build, they are messy and the bicarb is corrosive! years later still replacing/cleaning components, Pay the extra $200 for the halon unit, disappears like a fart in the wind...

I have a couple of these. Pricey and haven't needed one yet but take a look and you'll see it's worth it.

What were those extinguishers that we were discussing last winter that a couple times hadn't worked a couple times for racers so they weren't sure they were going to allow them anymore??? Very small and worked extremely well.

So is anyone here a Halon extinguisher dealer or can get us a buy?? I carry 3 dry chemical because I always have (more is better from a guy that volunteered for fires for 20+ yrs) but if I had a Halon I'd use it first then if I still needed more the dry chem's would be better than letting it burn to the ground...

I'm interested...

I have a dry chem and an element one in my mustang and bronco. Figure I'll use the element one first and have the messy dry chemical as back up.

If you buy directly from this company they have a warranty that they send a new extinguisher if you use yours, and I guess you can have your old one refilled.

Here they are, thx Ben.

https://elementfire.com/collections/allproducts#extinguishers

Anybody out there hear any more about these? I thought the elements were the ones where one or two didn't work right during a race or something... is my memory failing me (again)? lol

With 20+ yrs as a volunteer in fire dept we have aeen more than a couple times when an 8-12 sec blast from a portable dry extinguisher isn't enough... these elements are supposed to be good for 3-4 times that time minimum

From what I’ve seen they work well in engine bays, tans tunnels, etc. out I the open where most people test them they fail pretty badly. Needs a wind block to really be effective.
