I am looking at putting in a 5.0 from a late 80s Mustang. Will the Advanced Adapters NV3550 kit work on the 5.0? Do they use the same bellhousing and all that? Is there any difference between the 302 and 5.0? Thanks

Its a good tranny. Its just that the one behind the 170 is weaker and smaller then the one behind the 289/302. So usually the person switchs to a manual or auto tranny with an overdrive for fuel economy if they have the smaller 3 speed and need to swap it out. The 289/302 3 speed is a plenty...

The tranny from the 170 is a smaller version of the 3 speed behind the 289/302 engines. You will need a bigger tranny, most people go with the C4 or C6 automatic. There are several manuals out there as well, the NV4500 , the NP435 or some such. But the Transfer case is a Dana 20 just like every...
