    T-case for AOD?

A ford 203 input shaft is a direct replacement for the Dodge shaft so you can just tear down the range box and install the shaft. Ford shafts are hard to find and expensive when you do. A Ford 203 will bolt directly to any modern Ford 4x4 transmission. That range box has the round, 6 hole...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Quarter Panels We have known for quite a while that the quarter panels on this tub were shot. I peeled the drivers side off so I could blast behind it and get to the spot welds to grind the flanges off and make room for some replacements. The rot on the lower was pretty bad. Hopefully the...

A Little Reassembly and a Lot of Blasting I spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks sandblasting and then looking for other busy work while my compressor tired to catch up. I did a little detail work on the spring bolts and reassembled the roller so I could move the parts around a...

    Gauge cluster refurbishing

Even better. I'll be at the meet and greet on the 11th. I'll make a point to introduce myself. Thanks.

    Rear discs from explorer re-drilled

No problem. Just be very sure you can actually get the drum centered on the rotor. If you get it off more than a few thousands you will probably get some vibration. Good luck.

    Rear discs from explorer re-drilled

I drilled my own on my drill press and they don't vibrate at all. I have Yukon axles but it shouldn't matter which ones you have. I did all of this before I put the wheel studs in too so you would have to strip yours to do the same. I used a sanding barrel on a small electric dremel tool to...

    Gauge cluster refurbishing

I have a cluster I was planning to refurbish myself in a few months. Since I'm right here in Utah I would be interested. I can clean and repaint as necessary but actual repairs are another thing. Would you do the volt meter swap during a refurb if I supplied it?

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Cleaning the Tub I rebuilt the sandblast tent while the frame was at the powder coater. The new tent keeps the garage cleaner and makes it quite a bit easier to recycle the blast beads. There is also a door on the back side that works better than the open end we had last time. The tub is...

Back from the Powder Coater Went to pick up the frame and parts from the powder coater today. They look great. Now I just have to get about a couple of weeks worth of sandblasting on the body done so I can make some room to put it all back together.

    Bronco owners / Harley guys?

I have a '99 Fat Boy that I rode the wheels off of, right before I got my Indian. One or the other of them is a standard accessory for trips to Moab. That way I have something to do after I finally break the Bronco to the point that trail rerapir won't get it running again.

Frame to the Powder Coater Today We delivered the frame, cross members, radius arms, gas tank and a box full of small parts to the powder coater this afternoon. They should be ready by Friday of next week and all for $190. Doesn't seem like too bad a deal.

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Tear Down It took us five hours to completely tear down the last 18 months worth of work for sandblasting. We built a dust tent from PVC and plastic sheet and used a woodworking dust collector with a 5 micron sock to try to keep the blast debris under control. We used a 100 pound blast pot...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Thanks for the compliments. Motivation, time and money tend to be my biggest problems. I've been out of town for work 50% of the time for the last 8 months so those 1-2 hour stints every night after work have basically vanished. My son is only here every other weekend and for a couple of...

to scratch or not to scratch? how far is too far?

When I bought my current '71 it was fresh from the paint booth, dentless and uncut. I was afraid to do much with it for a long time. It took one of those scratch and dent episodes to get it off-road where it belongs. Now its been cut and modified so many times it is a chore to keep it street...

unusual? Transplant 250 I6 into EB

I have heard of the "mate the 170 & 250 pans together" thing before too but that wasn't what we did. We built a U shaped section of pan from sheet stock and welded it to the pan behind the original sump. It kind of looked like a flat bottom pan from a boat. I'm not sure I would recommend this...

unusual? Transplant 250 I6 into EB

Sorry, that thing about the starter was confusing. It was his 170/200 starter that wouldn't work with the 250. If I remember right the solution was supposed to be as simple as getting a V8 starter. It never seemed to work quite right though. It stripped part of the teeth off of the flywheel...

More Core Support We finished the core support today with the exception of access holes for the wiring to the lights. We will cut those when we do the final assembly of the front clip. We don't think there are any more frame modifictions to make so we will start the tear down of the chassis...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Core Support We decided to mock up the core support and make sure we would be able to fit the body panels over a modified core where we had placed the radiator. The core support we had to work with was a mess so we decided to fab a new one. It took a little work but the new support fits the...

1970 Build - For the Next Gen

Radiator We had originally intended to use the FSB radiator with some core support modifications. Once we really looked at that it was clear that the donor radiator was way too big to ever work in an EB. We went to the local salvage yard and came back with a mid 90's aluminum Explorer...
