Thick or Thin ? Transfer case oil

My "J" transfer case is giving me shifting fits ; )... I know these gear boxes are notorious for this. The shifter does not seem to push the shifting forks hard enough to engage the gears. When I pull the inspection cover and " nudge" the shifting forks with a screwdriver they seem go into...

    alternator oddity

So I am firing up my 67 bronco for the first time after a 3 year major renovation. I used basically stock alternator parts( 1G with a voltage regulator ) factory brackets During break-in I had what I thought was a bad squealing belt. After break-in I pulled the alternator belt and started it...

    C-4 torque converter engagement

I am troubleshooting a transmission I just put in my Bronco and the tranny will not engage. One of the problems I may have is the torque converter is not engaging the pump. My question is ...Properly installed , and with the t/c nuts removed should you be able to push the converter away from...

    tranny dropping tool

I have read in many post in this forum what a pain in the *ss it is to take out and put in trannies. So I thought I would show some photos of a rig I built out of a Harbor Freight hydraulic table and some scrap metal. The carts handle removes easily for sliding under the Bronco. With this set-up...

    Stock torque converter

I am in search of a stock torque converter . I purchased a used automatic setup for my 67. I discovered that I had the wrong converter when I tried to install it .The converter I got was simply too thick to fit. I have been trying to find a stock converter that I know goes to the early bronco. I...

OOPS...another DUM stunt on the transfer case

So I had a leak in my transfer case that was coming from the front yoke and I pulled the yoke and seal retaining housing and replaced the seal. Then I decided I would replace the rear yoke seal as well. I pulled the yoke and pulled the rear seal housing bolts ( as I did on the front ) And low...

    C4 conversion

I am in the process of converting my 67 from a 6 cylinder manual to a V8 and a C4 transmission. I don't have everything in place yet. Does anyone know whether the original driveshafts will work with the C4?

    Distributor Delema

I need to replace the distributor on my 67 289. The P.O. gutted the distributor that came with the motor I purchased from him. The part number on the one I have is an Autolite C7AF AE 12127 6J27 I am finding that these are listed for automatic and manuals as well as listings for 2V and 4V. I...

As I build my 67 Bronco I keep finding upgrades I want to do . I have upgraded from a manual to an automatic . With that upgrade I purchased a used steering column from a 76(I think) I have now decided to put in power steering as well. But WOW! So many choices. I see the original setups are...

    Horny question

I'm putting a 1976 steering column in my 1967.( I wanted an automatic ) It appears that the 76 wiring is set up for a relay to operate the horn where as the 67 seems to be operated by the horn switch. The 67 has a horn" in" wire and a horn" out "wire. The 76 harness only has a single horn wire...

    289 ...2 or 4 ?

As an old hot rodder I never thought there could be a question...but I have a basically stock 289 I expect that my Bronco will see mild trail use as well as street use. My question is about carburation , 2 barrel or 4. I have been told that for throttle response the 2 barrel is more consistent...

    Steering wheel interchange question

I have a column from a 76( no steering wheel) I am installing with my automatic conversion. I see that the 75-77 Broncos use different steering wheels than other Broncos. I saw a wheel on E-bay for 73-79 F-150 that the seller said was interchangeable with the 75-77 Bronco. Can anyone verify...

    Door skin dilemma

I have never re-skinned a door before...I know that the original way to re-skin involved welding the folded over door skin to the door frame. I also see now there are glues available that remove the need to weld, but , at $50 for each tube of glue and another $60 for the gun to use them is...

    What is this??

OK I was working on a 1962 inline 6 (maybe a 144) and when I pulled the plugs on #5 and #6 I found what looks like an adapter or some kind of a well the spark plug screws into . I have never seen something like this . Could it be to protect the plug from fouling ?
