    Coil Test

The picture is old, it has been replaced. So I went to the Mallory site and downloaded the instructions to test the distributer and coil. It says to test the voltage at the negative side of the coil and it should read 12 volts. It read below 2 volts and I replaced the coil with the same...

    Coil Test

Thanks for the links. I was on the Mallory site but did not find a test for my coil. I should have dug deeper. I now think that I may have blown out the photo optic in the distributer. I tried to start it with my battery tester in the start mode because I thought the battery was dead. Turns...

    Coil Test

Can anyone tell me how to test this coil? I was having an electrical problem that turned out to be a bad positive cable connection but now she will not start. No spark at all. It was running great before this issue. The distributer is Mallory Unilite also. Thanks.

    Fan rotation question

Well I just got more confused. Summits website says the Derale fan, part number 17515 has standard fan blades and clockwise rotation. The Derale website says it is standard rotation but doesn't say anything about direction. the 17415 part number says reverse rotation.

    Fan rotation question

In post number 3 he says if you are running a stock motor and or v-belts. I did not catch the and/or the first time I read it.

    Fan rotation question

I see you said and/or v-belts means standard rotation. Is that correct?

    Fan rotation question

Well you may have helped, but I will have to think about that for a while, I have an 89 Mustang 5.0 but the P.O. did not use the serpintine system. It has a v-belt system now. Now I am confused. I will read closer and try to make it make sense.

    Fan rotation question

As I am sitting in the drivers seat, my fan turns counterclockwise. Is that standard or reverse rotation. I need to order a new rigid fan and I am a little confused.

    Fan Uses Radiator As Snack!

Very true, at least it wasn't a $500 Ron Davis. I think I would have puked watching one of those bleed out. I didn't know about the diferent fan options until now and i am getting a lot of welding practice so that makes up about $6 of the total bill. Ha! Ha!

    Fan Uses Radiator As Snack!

The plan fro now is to take the system apart and cut off the bottom brackets and do some fabrication. I think I can get an inch from that and another 1/4" by cuting down the spacer or going to a rigid fan. I will order one and see what kind of clearance I can get. That should put me at...

If I am going to run a mechanical fan and shroud, I need to know how much of the fan needs to be inside the shroud. All, half, etc.

For the guys running fixed pitch fans, they do make them for non serpantine systems correct. I am still searching for them.

    Fan Uses Radiator As Snack!

I haven't found a 3/4 inch spacer yet, that would give me 1/4" clearance from the blades. I will check the Derale fan. Thanks

I definitely plan on getting a shroud if I stay with a mechanical fan. I will check into BC's fan. The spacer keeps the fan out of the belts by 1/2" in the current setup. How much clearance do I need to the radiator to be safe. New motor mounts, I just have very little clearance. It was my...

Also, how much room do I need between the end of the fan blades and the fan shroud. I have a 15" fan.

With the current setup, a fan guard would not help. Things are just too close, it would be hitting the guard all the time. What I need is room.

I should have added that. It got in too far at the bottom which is further away oddly enough and it has i good size hole in it.

    Fan Uses Radiator As Snack!

I knew when I put this cooling system together that my clearances were marginal at best. After 2500 miles and a few good trail runs I thought I was in the clear. Well, this weekend I was out testing out my new BFG 35" MT's and actually found some mud here in Tucson. I got on my mildly built...
