    Echo what Rustytruck says. High volume t'stat instead of the parts house special - they are almost 2x the flow when open and you do want to keep a s'tat for proper temp.

    I see you said new metal - guessing it had some type of rust preventative on it - a lot of sheet metal has this or lube oil from the stamping press. Wipe with some metal prep or acetone and dry before welding.

    You might look at Earls Pressure Master. The 302/351 # is EAR-29D03AERL at Summit. They can take a lot of stress from things moving. I keep an extra set of inserts for motor swaps. They aren't cheap initially but that's where the become cost effective.
