Name
Bonnie
Year
1972
Make
Ford
Model
U15
Color
Deep Impact Blue J4
History
This has been an eight-year journey to build the one that got away. Started in late 2018.

Modifications

Exterior Mods
One piece side windows and fender flares.
Interior Mods
Krawlers Edge Early Bronco Roll Cage.
Toms Front and Rear Seats.
Drivetrain Mods
Engine:
Early model Ford 302 .060 over with retro roller cam. Cylinder heads: Exhaust ported, 1.94 and 1.60 intake and exhaust valves. Old Edelbrock F4B intake with Edelbrock AVS2 carb. Shorty headers 2.5 collectors.
It’s a simple engine built in the early 2000’s. Transplanted from a mustang for temporary use, so I can enjoy the Bronco until I decide on the next one.

Front Axle: Dana 44 Ratio: 4:56
Differential: Truetrac (helical-gear style)

Rear Axle: Ford 9”
Nodular carrier housing W/Daytona pinion housing
Differential: Powertrax Grip Pro (helical-gear style) 31 spline
Ratio: 4.56

Transmission:
Ford T170 RUG 3+1 SMOD. Cast iron case 3 speed overdrive.
Old skool swap. Acquired a few over the years. Just needed an input shaft and a little machine work.

Transfer Case: Dana 20. Added 32 spline output shaft.
Suspension Mods
James Duff: 2.5 lift . T-Rex radius arms and Torque Tamer traction bar.
1978 Ford F150 4X4 steering box. Old 4x4x2 swap.
Wheels and Tires
US Mag 17X9. Cooper Evolution M/T 35 X 12.5 R17
Brakes:
Front 1978 Ford F150 disc brakes
Rear 1999 Ford Explorer disc brakes
Hydro-boost

Ignition:
Recurved Duraspark II distributor. Installed H.E.I module from Davis Ignition in Duraspark box. Davis Screamin' Demon Ford E-Style coli. I have run Duraspark II blue box for years and a red box in my past. This combination is by far the best for stock style parts in my Fords I have run with no further enhancements like an MSD box.

Update – 20261004: Recently upgraded to a Progressive Ignition Distributor (just because I like to tinker) using my same ecoil. I cannot give a long-term review on this as of now, but... Short term review - Adjustability on the fly and performance. Wow! If interested I can make a future post.

Misc:
F.A.S.T Wireless dual sensor Air/Fuel ratio meter.
Painless wiring 28 Circuit kit. With high amp harness for G4 Explorer alternator
Added 5 circuit relay box for High/Low Beams, Fuel Pump and Ignition
23-gallon fuel tank. W/internal fuel pump and full flow (return-style) regulated carburetor fuel system.
1996 – 2000 Ford Explorer style serpentine belt setup.
2.5 diameter exhaust all the way out.

A special shout out to two classicbroncos.com members:

bkeith85
– For the countless times I took reference measurements and pictures from your 72 Bronco. Loaning me parts like the hard top for fitment of body parts. Also having the privilege of purchasing a few parts. I know letting go of parts is hard to do.

Golfball – For the use of your auto rotisserie. That contraption saved my back from contorting in positions I might not have recovered from.

This project would have been more difficult without "yous guys" help and support. Thank you.

For the rest of the classicbroncos.com members keep up with the good work with support, pictures and tech information.

If I can be of assistance or have questions about this project, please reach out.
