I am searching for a front brake retracting spring the one on the right front of my 68 broke I went to oriely's and they did not have it and they even checked some books and they could not find it. Does any one have a part number. I see I can buy it at Jeffs bronco graveyard but I dont want to wait. Is it even necessary to have?

The ones on my 74 were rusted bad and fell apart during my first brake job. I just left them off and haven't had any issues......Ran it that way for over 14 plus years...converted to disc this past summer...

My guess is no one will have them in stock local. NAPA is good about being able to find parts like that in their mound of books. I find the other guys can't find anything if it's not in the computer under make, model, engine size, etc....

The GraveYard is prob you're best bet........

I've done nothing but Ford disk and drum brake jobs from 65ish up through 2005, never seen that, I'm not saying it won't work or is used, but here is a pic of what his front drums should look like, even though this is specifically from a 67 mustang

I know what you mean as I've done more than a few Frod drums myself....I don't recall my Haynes manual showing it in the diagrams either but my 74 had them on there. They go on the front in the same area as the rear E-brake spreader bar. Note the two holes in the shoes just below the spreader bar notches.....

Mine works fine without it...well it did for 14 plus years....No need for springs with my disc conversion.....
